Job Description

The Maintenance Technician performs routine installations, repairs, and preventive maintenance on production equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This role focuses on both electrical and mechanical work, with a strong emphasis on safely troubleshooting issues, supporting continuous improvement, and collaborating closely with production and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine installations, repairs, and maintenance on production equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Safely troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and extend the life of machinery.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot PLCs and other control systems to support automated production processes.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and overall performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance procedures, schedules, and best practices.
  • Provide training and support to other maintenance staff as needed to enhance team capability.
  • Assist with audits and inspections conducted by outside agencies.
  • Work on a flexible schedule as needed to support production demands.
  • Work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary to maintain equipment and meet operational needs.
  • Attend and participate in all training programs required by the company.
  • Promote and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) within the plant.
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance and work reliability in line with company policies.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to use basic math skills in daily work.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a similar maintenance position or demonstrated aptitude in maintenance-related tasks.
  • Strong electrical skills, with approximately 60% of work focused on electrical tasks and 40% on mechanical tasks.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical issues on production equipment.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot PLCs and other control systems.
  • Well-versed with production machinery including baggers, form fill seal pouchers, auger fillers, cappers, cartoners, labelers, printers, and ribbon mixers.
  • Basic plumbing skills for equipment and facility-related tasks.
  • Fabricating, welding, and grinding skills for equipment repair and modification.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics and related systems.
  • Machining skills for creating or modifying parts as needed.
  • Ability to read blueprints and basic schematics to diagnose and repair equipment.
  • Demonstrated attendance and work reliability.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  • Ability to adhere to and promote Good Manufacturing Practices within the plant.

  • Interest in ongoing learning and skill development, including potential PCQI certification.
  • Strong sense of responsibility regarding safety protocols and regulatory compliance.

Work Environment

The role is based in a production plant environment working with a range of machinery, including baggers, form fill seal pouchers, auger fillers, cappers, cartoners, labelers, printers, and ribbon mixers. Work involves both electrical and mechanical tasks, with approximately 60% of responsibilities focused on electrical systems and 40% on mechanical systems. The environment requires strict adherence to safety protocols and Good Manufacturing Practices. The schedule can be flexible, and you may be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to support production needs. There is a strict attendance policy during the contract period: three attendance points are allowed in the first 90 days and three points in the final 90 days; one point is assigned for an unexcused absence or no call/no show, and half a point is assigned for clocking in late or leaving early, even by one minute. Using all attendance points may result in termination, so punctuality and reliability are essential. The facility provides structured training programs and expects active participation to maintain high standards of quality and safety.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bolingbrook, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
