Within our private school of over 85 nationalities spanning the Early Years and all of K–12 education, we holistically emphasize components of intellectual, personal, emotional, and social growth through many resources and extracurricular activities.

The British International School of Boston is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and hands-on Facilities Technician to support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the school campus. The role will support a wide range of facilities needs across the campus, including routine maintenance, repairs, room and event set-up, building checks, and general operational support. The successful candidate will be practical, responsive, organized, and willing to lend a hand wherever needed to help keep the school running smoothly.

Job Purpose

The Facilities Technician will help maintain the best possible learning and working environment for students and staff at the British International School of Boston. The role plays an important part in the daily life of the school, ensuring that our buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities are safe, well maintained, and ready to support teaching, learning, and school activities.

The successful candidate should have:

  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, property maintenance, custodial services, or a similar hands-on facilities role.
  • Practical experience carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs, including basic carpentry, painting, hardware installation, furniture assembly, and other routine maintenance tasks.
  • Experience installing and maintaining display boards, signage, shelving, classroom fixtures, and equipment.
  • The ability to safely receive, move, and deliver supplies, boxes, equipment, and furniture throughout the campus.
  • A commitment to maintaining clean, safe, organized, and welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces, including general litter and waste removal as needed.
  • The ability to identify maintenance needs, prioritize work requests, and complete repairs independently, while recognizing when outside contractors or additional support are required.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills, with the ability to use initiative and respond effectively to day-to-day facilities needs.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Good written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students, families, contractors, and visitors.
  • A valid driver's license and excellent driving record.
  • Previous experience working in a school or educational environment is desirable but not required.
  • Immediate availability is preferred.

  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of the campus to identify maintenance, safety, or facilities concerns and report these to the Director of Operations.
  • Complete routine maintenance and minor repairs, including painting, basic carpentry, furniture assembly, hardware installation, and other general maintenance work.
  • Consult with the Director of Operations when maintenance or repairs require the support of an outside vendor or contractor.
  • Report facilities equipment requiring repair or replacement.
  • Ensure the school's three minivans are regularly checked, refueled, clean, and maintained in good working order.

  • Support the daily transportation of lunch "to-go" boxes to the Showa kitchen.
  • Assist with maintaining outdoor areas and addressing general campus needs as they arise.

Deliveries, Set-Up and Operational Support

  • Receive, check, and distribute deliveries, reporting any discrepancies or concerns to the Director of Operations.
  • Ensure incoming deliveries and supplies are promptly moved to the appropriate storage or delivery location so that the reception area remains clear and organized.
  • Receive and coordinate water and other scheduled deliveries.
  • Assist staff with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and other items throughout the campus.
  • Set up the gymnasium, hall, classrooms, and other spaces for assemblies, concerts, school productions, meetings, and special events, including chairs, staging, and audiovisual equipment as needed.

  • Collect or deliver items off-site when required.
  • Provide general facilities and operational support across the school as needs arise.

Additional Expectations

The Facilities Technician will:
