Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description
This role is for a mechanically focused Maintenance Technician in a pretzel manufacturing facility, working on 2nd shift from Monday to Friday (3:00 pm to 11:00 pm). You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of production and facility equipment, ensuring reliable operation and strict adherence to food safety and cleanliness standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform general preventive maintenance, repair, and sanitation tasks on production and facility equipment in a food manufacturing environment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on equipment to minimize downtime and maintain efficient production.
- Repair and operate equipment such as forklift trucks, bagger-packaging machines, Ishida weigh scales, Toledo scales, commercial baking ovens, flour handling systems, commercial mixers, various conveyor systems, natural gas systems, HVAC units, metal detectors, emergency fire systems, pumps, compressors, pneumatic systems, chain drives, belt lacing and stitching, printing units, Marsh tapers, gear boxes, and electrical motors of all sizes.
- Use hand tools, power tools, shop tools, welders, plasma cutters, and other equipment safely and effectively to complete maintenance and repair tasks.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to diagnose issues and plan repairs on industrial machinery and systems.
- Perform electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, including work on 3-phase power systems and basic PLC troubleshooting as needed.
- Learn to operate, maintain, and repair any new equipment purchased in the future, as well as equipment not specifically listed, adapting quickly to changes in the plant.
- Place parts orders, receive parts, and store them in proper maintenance stock rooms and storage areas when needed.
- Organize maintenance stock rooms and storage facilities to ensure parts and tools are easily accessible and properly labeled.
- Train other employees on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, or safety practices when requested.
- Maintain strict standards of cleanliness and safety in accordance with food manufacturing requirements, including cleaning work areas and equipment after repairs.
- Work safely with scaffolding, ladders, forklifts, roofs, and at heights up to 50 feet as required by maintenance tasks.
- Work in confined spaces and excessively hot areas within the plant while following appropriate safety procedures.
- Lift and pull up to 50 pounds repeatedly as part of routine maintenance and repair activities.
- Proven experience as a maintenance technician in a manufacturing environment, with a strong mechanical focus.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial mechanical systems, including conveyors, gearboxes, motors, pumps, and compressors.
- Ability to perform electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, including work on 3-phase systems and basic PLC troubleshooting.
- Practical knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics for diagnosing and repairing related systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in food manufacturing or food processing environments is preferred.
- Background in industrial maintenance with exposure to mechanical, electrical, and fabrication work.
- Experience with conveyors, flour handling systems, commercial mixers, and baking ovens in a production setting.
- Knowledge of natural gas systems, HVAC units, and emergency fire systems in an industrial facility.
- Experience with packaging and weighing equipment such as bagger-packaging machines, Ishida weigh scales, and Toledo scales.
- Ability to work independently on 2nd shift, taking ownership of equipment reliability and maintenance tasks.
- Experience organizing maintenance stock rooms and managing parts inventory.
- Ability to train other employees on equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
- Comfort using metal detectors and other quality-related equipment in a food environment.
- Interest in growing into a maintenance manager role as opportunities arise.

Work Environment
The role is based in a food manufacturing plant specializing in pretzel production. The facility operates baking and processing lines, so the environment is consistently warm and can become very hot depending on how many lines are running. You will work on 2nd shift from Monday to Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, with overtime available as needed. The work involves regular use of industrial equipment such as forklifts, conveyors, mixers, ovens, HVAC units, and various tools including welders and plasma cutters. You will frequently work at heights using ladders and scaffolding, and in confined spaces and hot areas within the plant. Strict cleanliness and safety standards apply due to the food manufacturing setting, and you are expected to maintain clean work areas and follow all safety procedures while performing maintenance tasks.

This is a Permanent position based out of Reading, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
