Job Title: Lead Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Lead Maintenance Technician oversees daily maintenance operations in a distribution center while remaining actively involved in hands-on equipment repair and troubleshooting. This role coordinates and leads a maintenance team, ensures safe and efficient completion of work, and serves as the primary point of contact for the customer. The technician provides guidance, delegates tasks, trains new team members, and maintains a productive, customer-focused work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee a team of maintenance technicians to ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Coordinate and assign daily maintenance tasks, monitor progress, and adjust priorities as needed to support operational requirements.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on conveyors and other industrial equipment within the distribution center.
  • Conduct mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting to diagnose issues and implement effective repairs.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance activities on conveyors and other equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the customer, providing clear communication on maintenance activities, equipment status, and any issues that arise.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to maintenance team members to promote skill development and consistent performance.
  • Train and instruct new hires on maintenance procedures, safety practices, and equipment operation.
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and customer-focused work environment by following and reinforcing safety and operational standards.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections as required to support reliability and compliance.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience performing maintenance in a distribution center environment.
  • Experience leading a crew or team of maintenance technicians in daily operations.
  • Hands-on experience with conveyor maintenance and repair.
  • Multicraft maintenance experience, including mechanical, industrial, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and related troubleshooting.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills for industrial equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate daily maintenance tasks and manage workload effectively.
  • Experience communicating directly with customers in a professional and service-oriented manner.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to guide, support, and train team members.
  • Commitment to working safely and following established safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a high-throughput distribution center or similar industrial facility.
  • Experience in preventive maintenance programs for conveyors and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to train and mentor new maintenance technicians.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing operational needs.

Work Environment

This role is based in a distribution center environment with a focus on conveyor and industrial equipment maintenance. The schedule runs Monday through Friday from 4:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours. You will work around active material-handling systems and industrial machinery, requiring adherence to safety protocols and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The setting is fast-paced and operationally focused, with close coordination between maintenance and warehouse operations to support continuous material flow.

This is a Contract position based out of Bessemer, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $36.00/hr.
