Job Description

Job DescriptionClinical Engineering Integration Specialist

Location: New Haven, CT

Travel: Some travel between hospital locations required

Employment: Long-term opportunity

The Opportunity

Were hiring a Clinical Engineering Integration Specialist to support a major healthcare system in Connecticut.

The ideal candidate comes from a Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET), or Clinical Engineering background and understands how medical devices operate within a hospital environment. This person should be comfortable with bedside equipment and clinical technology, but also interested in or experienced with the IT side of healthcare, including device connectivity, networking, HL7, servers, and EMR integration.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to take their biomedical experience beyond traditional break/fix equipment support and become more involved with medical device integration, clinical systems, and healthcare IT.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Support the installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and integration of biomedical and clinical devices.
  • Work with bedside medical equipment such as patient monitors, telemetry systems, infusion pumps, ventilators, and other connected clinical technology.
  • Troubleshoot both the biomedical device and IT/network side of connectivity issues.
  • Support medical devices communicating with clinical applications and EMR systems.
  • Analyze, configure, test, and validate HL7 interfaces and clinical device data.
  • Troubleshoot networking, Wi-Fi, servers, hardware, software, and device connectivity.
  • Lead and support Biomedical Device Integration (BMDI) projects.
  • Help determine technical requirements for new medical device installations, including power, networking, mounting, and infrastructure.
  • Gather requirements and understand how clinicians actually use medical equipment within their workflows.
  • Partner with Clinical Engineering, IT, clinicians, Facilities, EMR/application teams, and medical device vendors.
  • Support implementations, upgrades, testing, go-lives, documentation, and ongoing operational support.
  • Help improve and standardize clinical technology and medical device integration across hospital locations.

Ideal background

We are especially interested in candidates coming from Biomedical Engineering or Clinical Engineering environments who understand the medical equipment used in hospitals.

Strong backgrounds could include:

  • Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET)
  • Biomedical Engineer
  • Clinical Engineer
  • Clinical Engineering Technician
  • Medical Device Integration Specialist
  • Patient Monitoring / Clinical Systems Specialist
  • Field Service Engineer supporting hospital medical equipment
  • Healthcare IT professional with strong medical device experience

What Were Looking For

  • Bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Biomedical, Clinical Engineering, or medical device experience is highly preferred.
  • Hands-on familiarity with hospital medical equipment and the clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring, telemetry, infusion pumps, ventilators, or similar connected medical devices.
  • Experience or knowledge around medical device integration, BMDI, HL7, clinical interfaces, or EMR connectivity.
  • Understanding of networking, Wi-Fi, servers, and how medical devices communicate across hospital infrastructure.
  • Healthcare or hospital experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues that involve both the medical device and its connectivity/integration.
  • Ability to work directly with clinicians, Clinical Engineering teams, IT teams, and equipment vendors.
  • Experience supporting implementations or technical projects is a plus.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel between hospital locations as needed.

Why This Opportunity?

This is especially attractive for someone with a biomedical background who wants to grow deeper into healthcare technology and IT.

Rather than focusing only on repairing and maintaining individual pieces of medical equipment, youll get exposure to how those devices connect into the broader hospital technology environment, including patient monitoring, HL7, networks, servers, interfaces, EMR systems, and enterprise medical device integration.

Its a strong long-term opportunity for a BMET or Clinical Engineering professional looking to take the next step toward medical device integration and healthcare IT.

Main change: I made the BMET/Biomedical/Clinical Engineering profile the obvious target, while still keeping enough HL7, networking, and integration language to screen for candidates who can bridge the gap between medical devices and IT.
