Position Summary
The Facility Maintenance Technician I performs field-based technical and maintenance activities supporting non-potable water distribution systems. This role is responsible for system flushing operations, water quality monitoring, equipment inspections, maintenance tracking, and documentation to ensure proper operation and reliability of utility infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License preferred/required based on assignment needs.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including emergency response situations when required.
- Experience with utility field operations, water distribution systems, or maintenance activities preferred.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Ability to use computer applications for communication, tracking, documentation, and reporting.
- Ability to complete electronic and written field service records.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with customers, agencies, and team members.
- Knowledge of water distribution infrastructure including valves, hydrants, blow-offs, and related equipment.
- Ability to perform water quality monitoring using field testing equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, utility maps, plats, diagrams, and aerial photographs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform flushing operations and maintenance activities for non-potable water distribution systems.
- Operate flushing equipment, valves, hydrants, and blow-off systems to maintain water quality and system performance.
- Monitor water quality and collect field data using approved procedures and equipment.
- Review utility maps to determine water sources, flow patterns, and appropriate flushing locations.
- Inspect operational conditions of valves, hydrants, and distribution system components.
- Document equipment conditions, maintenance requirements, and repair needs.
- Prepare and maintain work orders, service reports, and maintenance records.
- Track flushing activities, schedules, and completion status.
- Utilize mapping technologies, GIS tools, Cityworks, and related tracking systems.
- Collect and maintain technical water quality data and evaluate trends.
- Generate field reports documenting flushing locations, infrastructure used, flow rates, and water loss.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and parts required for field operations.
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lead Flushing Technician.
Physical & Work Environment
- Work is performed in an active field environment with changing priorities and schedules.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Must safely operate utility equipment and perform hands-on maintenance activities.
- Requires attention to detail, adaptability, and ability to respond to changing operational needs.
