The Town of Wellesley Department of Public Works seeks an Assistant Superintendent for the Park and Tree Division to help manage and implement the Park and Tree Program. The position plans, schedules, and directs day-to-day operations and serves as an advisor and liaison with Town boards, commissions, and members of the public.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead, supervise, instruct and train Division personnel
• Manage and implement the Park and Tree Program
• Plan, schedule, and direct day-to-day operations
• Coordinate programs with Town boards, commissions, and members of the public
• Serve as Town Arborist and Deputy Tree Warden in the Superintendent’s absence or as delegated
• Administer MGL Chapters 45, 87, and 132
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Park Administration, or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Arboriculture and Landscape Management or equivalent
• Massachusetts Pesticide License, Right of Ways Category #40
• Massachusetts Certified Arborist, Massachusetts Certified Landscape Professional, or International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist
• Training and/or experience in hazard tree identification and electric distribution tree clearance programs
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Effective leadership, communication, time management, organizational, and public relations skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Valid MA Class B CDL and Hoisting Engineer’s License
• Knowledge of GIS, lake management and treatment techniques, and Athletic Field and Playground Equipment Maintenance Programs
• Experience with the media and technical presentations
Expected hiring range is $97,596 to $114,676 DOQ. Full salary range up to $131,755, with benefits.
