Job Description
The Design Engineer will design and develop permanent magnet servo and stepper motors, enhancing existing products and contributing to new product development initiatives. This role collaborates closely with engineering and product teams to support strategic plans and product road maps while continuously growing technical skills through ongoing training and development opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop permanent magnet servo and stepper motors, including both exterior and interior permanent magnet configurations.
- Improve and refine existing motor designs across all product categories to enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with the Staff Engineer, product management, and product engineers to execute strategic engineering and product plans.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a new product road map by providing technical input and design concepts.
- Create, modify, and maintain detailed CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
- Interpret and work from mechanical blueprints to ensure accurate design and alignment with engineering specifications.
- Use hand tools to support prototyping, testing, and evaluation of motor designs as needed.
- Apply basic controls engineering and code programming concepts to support motor design functionality and integration.
- Participate in design reviews, incorporate feedback, and ensure designs meet performance, quality, and safety requirements.
- Actively seek coaching and training, demonstrating a strong willingness to learn and continuously improve technical skills.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of CAD design experience, preferably using SolidWorks.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints accurately.
- Practical experience using hand tools in an engineering or technical environment.
- Foundational understanding of mechanical design principles.
- Basic familiarity with controls engineering concepts.
- Basic exposure to code programming related to engineering applications.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering and product teams.
- Willingness to be coached and trained, with a demonstrated desire to learn and grow.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience designing or working with permanent magnet servo and stepper motors.
- Experience with both exterior and interior permanent magnet motor designs.
- Prior exposure to product development life cycles and product road mapping.
- Interest in pursuing additional education or training supported by the employer.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in design work.
- Ability to incorporate feedback and continuously improve design quality.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Racine, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $36.05/hr.
