Job Description

Starflex Fabrication is seeking an experienced Quality Technician with a strong background in sheet metal fabrication. We need someone who can read a print, accurately inspect a part, recognize a problem, and work with production to get it corrected.

This is a hands-on shop floor position supporting laser cutting, forming, welding, hardware installation, and powder coating. You must be comfortable inspecting individual components and completed assemblies in a job shop with changing customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections against customer drawings, specifications, and router requirements.

  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, hole locations, bend angles, hardware placement, and assembly fit.

  • Inspect welded assemblies for dimensional accuracy, weld location, weld size, and visible workmanship issues.

  • Check powder-coated parts for finish quality and specified coating requirements.

  • Use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, angle gauges, pin gauges, and other inspection equipment.

  • Read engineering drawings and weld symbols, and verify the correct drawing revision.

  • Record inspection results clearly and maintain traceable quality records.

  • Identify and segregate nonconforming material, document discrepancies, and promptly communicate issues.

  • Verify reworked parts before release.

  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions.

  • Monitor measuring equipment calibration status and report damaged or out-of-calibration equipment.

  • Work directly with production, engineering, and quality personnel to resolve problems and prevent repeat defects.

Qualifications

  • Previous hands-on quality inspection experience in sheet metal fabrication is required.

  • Strong blueprint reading and precision measurement skills.

  • Working knowledge of laser-cut, formed, welded, and powder-coated parts.

  • Ability to interpret dimensional tolerances and weld symbols.

  • Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and communicate clearly with shop personnel.

  • Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation habits.

  • Basic computer skills for entering inspection results and maintaining records.

Preferred Experience — Not Required

  • ISO 9001 quality systems.

  • First article inspections, PPAP documentation, and corrective action reporting.

  • Inspection of complex welded assemblies.

  • Portable measuring arms or other advanced inspection equipment.
