Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This role supports the reliable operation and upkeep of facilities and physical plant systems by performing a wide range of moderately complex general and preventative maintenance tasks. The Maintenance Technician inspects equipment, completes building repairs and general construction work, maintains accurate maintenance records, and assists in training team members to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of moderately difficult general equipment repairs and services in accordance with standard procedures, diagrams, and manufacturers instructions.
  • Participate in equipment installations as needed, ensuring proper setup, operation, and safety compliance.
  • Carry out alterations and repairs on machinery, equipment, and facilities within established skill level and trade licensure.
  • Plan and perform routine general building maintenance, including repairs and services to keep the facility in good condition.
  • Set up and install furniture and related fixtures to support facility operations and space utilization.
  • Participate as needed in major renovations, new construction projects, and facility alterations.
  • Inspect equipment and systems regularly and perform preventative maintenance and safety tests as required.
  • Identify and correct problems encountered during inspections, and promptly report equipment or system operational issues to the supervisor.
  • Contact and coordinate outside service providers when major equipment failures exceed in-house skill levels.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior employees, sharing knowledge of maintenance procedures, safety practices, and equipment operation.
  • Maintain detailed records of service cycles, repairs, inspections, and all preventative maintenance activities.
  • Prepare, organize, and update preventative maintenance records, reports, and files as required.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in good working order and ensure availability of necessary materials to perform duties.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support the overall maintenance and safe operation of the facility.

Essential Skills

  • Two years of industrial or commercial maintenance experience (preferred), demonstrating hands-on exposure to building systems and equipment.
  • High school education or GED, or equivalent level of education (preferred).
  • Associates or technical degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience (preferred).
  • State-certified licensure relevant to the maintenance trade (required).
  • Valid drivers license (required).
  • Proficiency in general maintenance and repair of building systems and equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow standard procedures, diagrams, and manufacturers instructions.
  • Electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • HVAC repair skills.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance and safety testing on equipment and systems.
  • Strong recordkeeping skills for documenting service cycles, maintenance activities, and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Capability to assist in training and mentoring junior team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial or commercial facility maintenance environments.
  • Experience with HVAC systems maintenance and repair.
  • Experience with electrical systems maintenance and basic electrical diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with general construction, renovations, and facility alterations.
  • Ability to set up and install furniture and fixtures in a healthcare or similar environment.
  • Comfort working with external service providers for specialized equipment repair.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple maintenance tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.

Work Environment

The role is based within a large medical center campus that includes a 302-bed medical center, emergency department, and a network of clinics, urgent care, home care, and hospice services. The facility also houses an advanced cardiovascular care center that brings together expert providers, innovative treatments, and comprehensive patient support. The work environment involves maintaining clinical, administrative, and support areas, along with building systems and equipment typical of a modern healthcare facility. The position may involve working around medical equipment, HVAC systems, electrical components, and general building infrastructure. Hours and shifts may vary based on operational needs and maintenance schedules, and the role requires adherence to safety standards and facility protocols in a healthcare setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
