This is a contract role. We are seeking a hands-on Service Developer to design, build, and maintain backend services, APIs, and integrations that power enterprise applications. This is a hybrid position based in Pleasanton, CA with 2 days onsite per week.
Engagement Type: Contract (W2).
Rate: $60/hour on W2.
Location: Pleasanton, CA — hybrid, 2 days onsite per week.
Residency Requirement: Local candidates only — must currently reside within commuting distance of Pleasanton, CA.
Work Authorization: Per client requirement, candidates must be visa-independent (no current or future visa sponsorship required).
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful and/or SOAP web services and microservices
- Build and support API integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms
- Write clean, testable, production-grade code and participate in code reviews
- Develop and optimize database queries, stored procedures, and data access layers
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve service and integration issues in development and production
- Collaborate with architects, QA, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into working services
- Implement authentication, logging, monitoring, and error-handling for reliable service operation
- Maintain technical documentation for services, APIs, and integration flows
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience developing web services, APIs, and backend integrations
- Strong programming skills in one or more of: Java, C#/.NET, Python, or Node.js
- Hands-on experience with REST and/or SOAP, JSON/XML, and API design best practices
- Solid SQL skills and experience with relational databases
- Familiarity with version control (Git), CI/CD, and Agile delivery
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and communication skills
- Must be local to Pleasanton, CA and able to work onsite 2 days per week
- Must be visa-independent (no sponsorship, now or in the future)
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Exposure to containers (Docker/Kubernetes) and microservice architecture
- Experience with message queues / event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.)
- Prior consulting or contract delivery experience
