Tools Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Designer who transforms a given set of tools and requirements into a fully functional, aesthetically pleasing product that can be efficiently manufactured. This role will have the opportunity to partner with a leader in the aerospace industry creating designs for containers used by airplane mechanics.

Responsibilities:

\n

Design & Drawing Creation:

\n

\n
• Create dimensional, installation, and complex design drawings from concept to completion, following Company guidelines and engineering specifications.

\n

• Design tool layouts and assemblies within tool kits, toolboxes, and related storage systems, ensuring efficient organization and accessibility.

\n

• Develop drawings that accurately represent tool placement, fit, and functionality within custom tool control systems.

\n

• Update existing drawings with design changes and improve models to meet company standards for efficient manufacturing.

\n

• Revise and maintain project drawings to ensure consistency and accuracy for the manufacturing and assembly floor.

\n

• Follow Company drawing revision guidelines to ensure all drawings remain current and accurate.

\n

Documentation & Review:

\n
• Review customer documentation, plans, and specifications as directed by the Engineering Manager.

\n

• Maintain detailed notes, design calculations, and other relevant documentation for future reference.

\n

\n

System & Support:

\n

\n
• Support related tasks such as CAD database management and PDM maintenance.

\n

• Troubleshoot problems and figure out the best way to test and overcome them.

\n

\n

\n

Qualifications:

\n

\n
• Strong 2D design experience. Experience creating detailed layout and design drawings from sketches, concepts, and specifications.

\n

• AutoCAD experience required.

\n

• Understands design for manufacturing (DFM) using the most efficient and least labor-intensive method to produce kits.

\n

• Familiar with laser cutting, waterjet cutting, CNC machining, and additive manufacturing.

\n

• Knowledgeable in standard drafting practices, engineering documentation, design procedures.

\n

• Strong Excel proficiency for analyzing and manipulating data.

\n

• Excellent communication skills - interpersonal, listening, oral, written.

\n

• Strong team-oriented work ethic and collaboration skills.

\n

• Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and organize multiple tasks effectively.

\n

• Ability to maintain strong attention to detail and the ability to focus on complex design work for extended periods.
