Job Title: Hardware Design Engineer
Job Description
This role seeks an intermediate-level Hardware Design Engineer who will update and improve existing hardware models while contributing to the design and documentation of electrical systems. You will apply your expertise in AutoCAD Electrical and hardware design to support ongoing projects and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team. This position offers an on-site, no travel, contract opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Update and maintain existing hardware models using AutoCAD Electrical to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Design and modify electrical hardware layouts, schematics, and panel drawings to support project and operational requirements.
- Troubleshoot programmable logic controller (PLC) systems and associated hardware to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
- Apply knowledge of the National Electrical Code when reviewing and updating hardware designs to support safe and compliant installations.
- Collaborate with a team of hardware designers, PLC programmers, and a SCADA specialist to integrate hardware, control systems, and automation solutions.
- Prepare and revise technical documentation and drawings to support construction, installation, and maintenance activities.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input to improve hardware design quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance hardware designs and documentation processes.
Essential Skills
- Intermediate-level experience as a Hardware Design Engineer with a focus on electrical hardware design.
- 34 years of hands-on experience using AutoCAD Electrical for creating and updating electrical drawings and hardware models.
- Proficiency in hardware design principles, including layout, schematics, and panel design.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and its application to electrical hardware design.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical documentation and drawings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience programming or configuring PLCs in addition to troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with applying the National Electrical Code in design reviews and field support.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a structured approach to diagnosing hardware and control system issues.
Work Environment
You will work on-site in a new or recently updated building that provides a modern and comfortable work setting. The role involves working closely with a small, focused team consisting of three hardware designers, two PLC programmers, and one SCADA specialist, fostering strong collaboration and knowledge sharing across disciplines. The position does not require travel, allowing for a stable, office-based schedule. The environment emphasizes teamwork, technical excellence, and long-term growth potential, with the opportunity to transition into a direct or long-term role for individuals who demonstrate strong performance and fit well within the team.

This is a Contract position based out of Wixom, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
