AREA LEADER – JANITORIAL SERVICES

Redefine Facility Cleaning
Location/Area and Schedules:

- Sweeten Creek Rd & Biltmore Village: 2:00pm-10:30; Monday through Friday

- Central/Downtown Asheville: 6:00-11:00pm; Monday through Friday
Pay: $18.00 per hour starting

About the Position

Redefine Facility Cleaning is seeking an organized, responsive, and hands-on Area Leader to oversee cleaning operations across an assigned group of customer sites.

A Redefine Area generally includes solo sites and Team sites located within a 10–15-mile radius.

The Area Leader reports to the District Coordinator.

Primary Responsibilities

Cleaning and Coverage

Clean alongside the team, provide coverage, support new account start-ups, and correct urgent quality problems.
Step into critical or high-visibility areas when staffing gaps could affect customer service.
Model Redefine cleaning standards, the Redefine Cards, and the 3 S’s: Shine, Stock, Secure.

Scheduling and Staffing

Create or confirm daily team assignments.
Adjust work distribution when absences, special requests, access issues, or workload changes occur.
Communicate needed scheduling changes to the designated scheduler or through the approved system.
Confirm that employees understand schedule and assignment changes.
Review planned staffing and hours against the customer scope.
Communicate coverage gaps, overtime risks, and recurring staffing needs to the District Coordinator.
Support accurate timekeeping, attendance communication, time-edit follow-up, and time-off processes within assigned authority.

Site Visits and Quality

Visit assigned sites routinely and assess overall quality and completion.
Inspect restrooms, floors, entrances, first-impression spaces, known problem areas, and areas connected to recent complaints or inspection findings.
Check janitorial closets, carts, chemicals, supplies, PPE, vacuums, mop heads, filters, and equipment.
Observe new employees working in their assigned spaces and determine whether additional training is needed.

Team Leadership and Development

Conduct weekly huddles using the company-provided agenda.
Review inspection wins and opportunities, attendance, completion, supplies, equipment, customer feedback, budget-versus-actual information, and company updates.
Train and coach Cleaning Technicians, Day Porters, Shift Leaders, and Team Leaders.
Demonstrate correct cleaning methods and verify improvement.
Develop Team Leaders and Shift Leaders by clarifying expectations, delegating appropriately, and following up.
Create an environment where concerns are brought to the person who can help resolve them.

Customer Service

Maintain professional communication with customers across the assigned Area.
Respond promptly to routine concerns and coordinate service recovery when needed.
Avoid making unauthorized commitments involving pricing, contract scope, staffing, or schedule changes.
Keep the District Coordinator informed of complaints, repeated quality problems, staffing risks, safety concerns, supply failures, and customer opportunities.

Qualifications and Skills

Commercial cleaning and frontline leadership experience strongly preferred.
Ability and willingness to perform hands-on cleaning for approximately 50% of work time.
Strong scheduling, organization, prioritization, and follow-through skills.
Ability to inspect work objectively and provide clear, respectful coaching.
Professional customer-service and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage changing priorities across multiple customer sites.
Working knowledge of mobile communication, scheduling, inspection, timekeeping, email, and reporting systems.
Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between assigned sites.
Ability to recognize when an issue can be resolved within the Area and when it must be escalated.

Physical and Scheduling Requirements

Travel regularly between customer sites.
Stand and walk for extended periods and move throughout multi-floor buildings and exterior areas.
Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, push, and pull.
Lift and carry trash, supplies, and equipment, generally up to 40 pounds.
Operate janitorial equipment and complete cleaning duties as needed.
Maintain schedule flexibility based on coverage, training, quality, and customer needs. Early-morning, daytime, evening, weekend, or occasional after-hours work may be required.
