Job Description

Akira Technologies, Inc. is seeking an experienced AI Software Engineer to join our growing team and help design, develop, and deploy scalable, AI-enabled software applications supporting innovative technology solutions.

This is a hands-on, full-stack engineering role focused on building and deploying production-ready applications using C#/.NET, TypeScript, Angular, and Microsoft Azure. The ideal candidate will have experience integrating AI-driven capabilities, including OpenAI APIs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, and Large Language Model (LLM) guardrails, into secure, scalable applications.

We are looking for a collaborative, solutions-oriented engineer who can rapidly prototype new ideas, develop minimum viable products (MVPs), and transform AI concepts into reliable applications that deliver measurable value.

This position is fully remote, with occasional onsite meetings in Rock Island, Illinois, and requires US citizenship. Ideal candidate must be clearable for a security clearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable, full-stack applications using C#/.NET, TypeScript, and Angular.
  • Build and integrate AI-driven capabilities into production applications, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, prompt orchestration, LLM guardrails, structured outputs, and evaluation of model responses.
  • Integrate commercial AI platforms and APIs, including OpenAI, to deliver intelligent, automated application features.
  • Rapidly prototype, evaluate, and iterate on emerging AI technologies and concepts to deliver minimum viable products (MVPs).
  • Develop and maintain backend services, REST APIs, and user-facing applications using modern software engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, technical leads, and stakeholders to define, design, and implement technical solutions.
  • Optimize applications for performance, scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, and continuous process improvements.
  • Implement and maintain DevOps practices, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines to support application deployment.
  • Apply secure coding principles and best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong hands-on experience in full-stack application development, including frontend and backend technologies.
  • Proficiency in C# and .NET (ASP.NET Core / .NET 6+) for backend application development.
  • Experience developing modern frontend applications using TypeScript and Angular.
  • Demonstrated experience building and deploying AI-enabled applications, including RAG, prompt engineering, and LLM guardrails such as input/output validation, hallucination mitigation, and safe fallback mechanisms.
  • Hands-on experience integrating OpenAI or similar commercial LLM APIs into production applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native application development.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases and REST API design.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance. An active clearance is not required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Docker and containerized application deployment.
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks and automation tools such as IBM UFT, Microsoft Power Automate, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of AI operations and MLOps practices for deploying, monitoring, and maintaining AI-enabled applications.
  • Familiarity with secure coding principles, application security, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Exposure to DevSecOps practices and integrating security throughout the application development lifecycle.
  • Experience supporting federal government, defense, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft Azure Developer Associate, AWS Developer, or Microsoft Power Automate RPA Developer.
