Job Description

The Maintenance Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs industrial food processing and packaging equipment with a strong emphasis on preventative maintenance. This role focuses on maximizing equipment uptime through proactive mechanical and electrical work in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment, while collaborating closely with a tight-knit team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on industrial food processing and packaging machines to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on equipment, including motors, pumps, conveyors, ovens, labelling machines, packing machines, and other food manufacturing machinery.
  • Carry out repairs on industrial equipment, addressing both routine maintenance needs and reactive maintenance when required.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment problems using blueprints and electrical schematics, ensuring accurate and efficient repairs.
  • Focus on proactive maintenance strategies to help sustain extremely high equipment uptime and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Inspect equipment regularly to identify potential failures and implement corrective actions before breakdowns occur.
  • Work closely with other technicians and production staff as part of a highly collaborative team, sharing ideas and feedback to improve processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by thinking creatively and proposing solutions to recurring equipment and process issues.
  • Assist teammates with maintenance tasks and provide support across different areas of the plant as needed.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting and repair on low-voltage power control systems (such as 12/24V) and related components.
  • Service and maintain conveyors, motors, pumps, sensors, and other mechanical and electrical components used in food manufacturing.
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and compliance procedures, including strict adherence to food industry and regulatory standards.
  • Work effectively in cold and occasionally wet production environments while maintaining attention to detail and equipment reliability.
  • Start contributing quickly by learning site-specific equipment and procedures and operating with minimal supervision once trained.
  • Document maintenance activities as required and communicate equipment status and repair needs clearly to supervisors and team members.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of maintenance experience within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience performing preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance on food manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical equipment issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player with a positive attitude and strong collaboration skills.
  • Eagerness to learn, take feedback, and contribute ideas to improve maintenance practices and equipment performance.
  • Electrical experience with at least 12/24V power control troubleshooting and repair.
  • Experience working on motors, pumps, and conveyor systems in an industrial setting.
  • Solid knowledge and practical experience with preventative maintenance techniques and schedules.
  • Ability to start quickly and operate with minimal training while maintaining safe and compliant work practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial kitchen or food processing environments, such as bakeries or prepared foods manufacturing.
  • Exposure to 480V equipment and ability to work safely around higher-voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with sensors, PLC-controlled equipment, and automated conveyor systems.
  • Hands-on experience with food processing equipment such as ovens, industrial kitchen machinery, multivac machines, labelling machines, packing machines, and stuffing equipment.
  • Expereince in highly regulated food production environments with strict compliance standards.
  • Demonstrated “go-getter” mindset, with a strong drive to learn, grow, and take initiative.
  • Comfort working in very cold production areas and around wet floors while maintaining safety and productivity.

Work Environment

This role is based in an industrial food processing plant that operates under strict regulatory standards and high compliance expectations. You will work directly with industrial kitchen and packaging equipment, including conveyors, ovens, multivac machines, labelling machines, and various packing and stuffing machinery. The facility maintains very cold temperatures due to meat products, and some areas have wet floors, requiring consistent attention to safety and proper footwear. Work is performed on production shifts, with one first shift available (approximately 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays) and one second shift (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.). The environment is highly team-oriented, with minimal solo work and frequent collaboration, and technicians are expected to adhere to all safety, sanitation, and equipment handling procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
