Job Description
Job Description
Our client is a rapidly growing law firm focused on affordable housing, community development, and sophisticated real estate transactions. The firm works on complex, mission-driven matters involving affordable housing financing, tax-exempt bonds, low-income housing tax credits, and other funding mechanisms that help create and preserve affordable housing.
We are seeking a Real Estate Associate with transactional affordable housing and/or LIHTC experience to join a collaborative and growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants meaningful deal ownership, sophisticated transactional exposure, and direct access to experienced attorneys in the affordable housing space.
The Role
The successful candidate will play a central role in affordable housing transactions, taking increasing ownership of matters from initial drafting through closing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Draft, review, and negotiate sophisticated real estate transaction documents.
- Handle acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and multi-layered LIHTC financing transactions.
- Draft and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, joint venture agreements, loan documents, and organizational documents.
- Coordinate transactions involving multiple parties, financing sources, tax-exempt bonds, and tax credit programs.
- Manage deal timelines and help drive transactions from signing through closing.
- Work closely with partners, clients, opposing counsel, lenders, investors, and other transaction participants.
- Take ownership of matters and contribute meaningfully within a collaborative, flat deal-team structure.
What We're Looking For
- 3–6 years of experience, with approximately 3–5 years particularly relevant for this position.
- Experience practicing transactional affordable housing and/or LIHTC law at a law firm.
- Strong transactional real estate experience, including drafting and negotiating complex deal documents.
- Demonstrated experience working on multi-layered financing transactions.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, deadlines, and moving parts through closing.
- Strong attention to detail, judgment, and communication skills.
- A proactive approach and the ability to take ownership of transactions quickly.
- Broader commercial real estate transactional experience is a plus.
Why This Is a Great Opportunity
This is more than a traditional mid-level associate role. You will have the opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-impact affordable housing transactions while gaining substantial deal ownership in a growing practice.
The role offers:
- Direct mentorship from experienced affordable housing attorneys, including weekly training opportunities.
- Exposure to sophisticated LIHTC, tax-exempt bond, and multi-source financing structures.
- The opportunity to take meaningful ownership of transactions rather than being limited to narrow pieces of a deal.
- A collaborative, flat team structure with close interaction with partners and counsel.
- The chance to contribute to work with a tangible social impact by helping create and preserve affordable housing.
- The opportunity to join a fast-growing firm that has expanded significantly in a short period of time.
- A competitive compensation package with a $190,000–$260,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus a two-part annual bonus structure.
- Competitive healthcare, a generous 401(k) match, backup family care, 20 days of PTO, and 11 paid holidays.
Work Arrangement
This is a full-time hybrid position based in New York City. The team works in the office Monday through Thursday, with Fridays remote.
Please note: This position is not open to candidates requiring visa sponsorship and is intended for U.S. citizens and Green Card holders.
