Job Description

About the Role

The Lead Installation Technician works directly under the Project Manager and leads the field technicians assigned to the project. This is a hands-on role—you'll work alongside the team while making sure the job is organized, the crew knows what needs to get done, and the installation meets our standards.

We're looking for someone who knows their craft, takes pride in their work, and genuinely cares about doing a good job. You should be comfortable leading others, solving problems in the field, communicating with the Project Manager and customer, and taking ownership of the work through completion.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and direct field technicians on assigned installation projects.
  • Review project scope, drawings, and requirements and plan the daily field work.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and make sure work is completed correctly and efficiently.
  • Work alongside the crew while providing technical direction and support.
  • Keep the Project Manager informed of progress, issues, delays, material needs, and outstanding work.
  • Coordinate professionally with customers, General Contractors, IT teams, and other trades.
  • Install, program, test, commission, and troubleshoot access control, CCTV/video surveillance, intrusion, intercom, fire, and related security systems.
  • Read and work from security plans, risers, wiring diagrams, and device schedules.
  • Install and troubleshoot access control systems and commercial door hardware, including locks, strikes, maglocks, REX devices, contacts, relays, and power supplies.
  • Troubleshoot wiring, hardware, power, programming, communication, and basic network/IP issues.
  • Check the team's work for quality and completeness.
  • Identify and complete punch-list items and make sure systems are fully tested before turnover.
  • Complete daily project notes, time entries, testing documentation, photos, and required closeout paperwork.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of commercial electronic security installation experience preferred.
  • Experience leading projects and directing other field technicians.
  • Strong experience with access control and IP video surveillance systems.
  • Experience with intrusion, intercom, fire, parking, and/or gate systems is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of access control wiring and commercial door hardware.
  • Ability to read drawings and independently troubleshoot field and system issues.
  • Working knowledge of IP addressing, PoE, network switches, and basic networking.
  • Hands-on experience with several of the following is preferred: AMAG, Lenel/LenelS2, Avigilon, Axis, Milestone, OpenPath/Avigilon Alta, Brivo, and Bosch.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with customers, coworkers, and other trades.
  • Valid driver's license required, as driving to customer job sites and/or operating a company vehicle is an essential function of this position.

The Kind of Person We're Looking For

Technical ability matters, but so does how you show up every day. We want someone who:

  • Has a positive attitude and leads by example.
  • Takes ownership and follows through.
  • Gives the crew clear direction without being afraid to work alongside them.
  • Helps and teaches less-experienced technicians.
  • Communicates problems early instead of letting them become bigger problems.
  • Takes pride in clean, professional work.
  • Treats customers and coworkers with respect.
  • Genuinely cares about the customer and getting the job done right.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Lead Installation Technician does more than complete an installation. They leave the project better than they found it.

The crew knows what is expected of them. The Project Manager knows where the project stands. Problems are communicated before they become surprises. Work is tested and checked before it is called complete. Punch-list items are followed through to completion. The job site and installation reflect pride in workmanship.

Most importantly, our customers feel that the person leading their installation genuinely cares about their project and is committed to delivering a system that works and an experience that reflects well on our company.
