Job Title: Maintenance Technician – 3rd Shift

Job Description

Join a high-volume dairy production facility as a 3rd shift Maintenance Technician, where you will perform a balanced mix of preventive and reactive maintenance on a wide range of industrial equipment. You will support continuous operations by troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems on production, packaging, and material handling machinery, helping ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform both preventive and reactive maintenance on production equipment, with approximately 50% of time spent on scheduled PMs and 50% on corrective repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues on conveyors, palletizing and wrapping machines, bag sealers, filler machines, blow molds, and mixing machines.
  • Service and maintain label printers, ensuring accurate and consistent labeling operations.
  • Inspect, repair, and replace pipes, valves, and related components to support proper product flow and facility utilities.
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs on forklifts and other material handling equipment as needed.
  • Support general facilities maintenance, including equipment, building systems, and infrastructure within the plant.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical problems on 480-volt systems and 3-phase motors, ensuring safe and compliant work practices.
  • Work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, identifying faults and performing repairs to restore proper operation.
  • Maintain and repair conveyor systems, including those utilizing variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical documentation to plan and execute maintenance tasks.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to perform repairs, adjustments, and installations.
  • Document maintenance activities accurately, including completed PMs, repairs, and parts used, in accordance with plant procedures.
  • Collaborate with production staff to minimize downtime and coordinate maintenance work around operational needs.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, maintaining a clean and organized work area and promoting a safe work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or plant environment.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with hands-on experience repairing industrial equipment and components.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including work on 480-volt systems and 3-phase motors.
  • Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including diagnosis and repair.
  • Practical experience with conveyor systems, particularly those utilizing variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance tasks systematically and follow established PM schedules.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Capability to balance approximately 40% electrical and 60% mechanical work, with solid foundational electrical knowledge.
  • Ownership and regular use of personal hand and power tools suitable for industrial maintenance work.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in fast-paced production settings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a food and beverage manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with maintenance practices on packaging and filling equipment, blow molds, and mixing machines.
  • Experience maintaining label printers and associated production equipment.
  • Background in facilities maintenance within an industrial or manufacturing plant.
  • Comfort working independently on night shift with limited direct supervision.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and work overtime as needed to support production demands.

Work Environment

This role is based in a dairy production facility that manufactures milk, cottage cheese, and sour cream, with operations running on a 3rd shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Work is performed on and around industrial production and packaging equipment, including conveyors, palletizing and wrapping machines, bag sealers, filler machines, blow molds, mixing machines, label printers, and forklifts. The environment is fast-paced and requires adherence to plant safety and cleanliness standards typical of food manufacturing. You will regularly use hand and power tools, work with mechanical components, and handle electrical systems such as 480-volt and 3-phase motors, as well as hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Overtime may be required, and you will participate in a Sunday on-call rotation, receiving overtime pay for being on call whether or not you are called in.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
