Job Description

A leading nonprofit organization is seeking a Lease Accountant to own the end-to-end accounting and reporting for our organization's property lease portfolio under GASB regulations. This is a hands-on engagement sitting within the finance team, responsible for ensuring our lease obligations are accurately recorded, disclosed, and compliant with current standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage the lease accounting schedule for all real property agreements, including initial recognition, subsequent measurement, and amortization of right-of-use assets and lease liabilities under GASB regulations.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries related to leases, reconcile lease balances to the general ledger, and support year-end close and audit preparation, including drafting footnote disclosures.
  • Review new and amended lease agreements to assess their classification and accounting treatment, coordinate with legal, facilities, and operations teams to capture all relevant contract terms, and maintain a complete and current lease inventory.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting for lease-related costs and respond to auditor inquiries on lease-related matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum of two years of hands-on lease accounting experience.
  • Prior experience in a nonprofit, government entity, or public sector organization is a strong plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to translate contract language into accounting entries with minimal ramp-up time.
