Intermediate Project Architect
Job Description
This Intermediate Project Architect role supports a Hudson, NY office and offers the opportunity to work closely with a highly experienced lead architect on custom, high-end residential projects. You will contribute across all phases of the project lifecycle—from schematic design through construction administration—with an immediate emphasis on producing detailed construction documents. This position is critical to maintaining a strong in-person presence in the Hudson office and ensuring continuity in project execution within a collaborative, design-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop schematic design and design development drawings for custom residential projects.
- Produce comprehensive and detailed construction documentation, including full construction drawing sets, elevations, and technical detailing, with a strong focus on this work in the early stages of the role.
- Coordinate effectively with consultants, including engineers, vendors, and other project stakeholders, to ensure accurate and integrated project information.
- Support construction administration activities, including site coordination, responding to RFIs, and engaging with vendors over time.
- Contribute to multiple custom residential projects simultaneously, managing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Apply knowledge of wall assemblies, building systems, and constructability to create technically sound architectural details.
- Participate in the full project lifecycle from schematic design (SD) through design development (DD), construction documents (CD), and construction administration (CA), with opportunities to expand responsibilities beyond documentation as you grow.
- Use SketchUp to create conceptual models and support early design stages for residential projects.
- Collaborate closely with a lead architect and junior/intern team members in an open, small-office setting.
- Maintain a consistent physical presence in the Hudson office on designated onsite days to support project execution and team collaboration.
Essential Skills
- 5–7 years of professional architectural experience, preferably with a focus on residential projects.
- Professional degree in Architecture.
- High proficiency in AutoCAD, with the ability to independently produce full construction document sets for custom residential homes.
- Strong experience creating construction documents, including elevations and detailed technical drawings.
- Solid understanding of residential architecture, particularly high-end, custom homes and wood-frame construction.
- Technical detailing expertise, including knowledge of wall assemblies, building systems, and constructability.
- Exposure to the full project lifecycle from schematic design (SD) through design development (DD), construction documents (CD), and construction administration (CA).
- Experience with construction administration, including site coordination and handling RFIs and vendor interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate with consultants, engineers, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
- Proficiency with SketchUp for conceptual modeling and early design phases.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities applied to design and technical challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear and professional communication skills, with the capacity to grow into client-facing responsibilities.
- Comfort working in a small, collaborative team environment.
- Living within commuting distance of Hudson, NY.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with high-end residential projects, including custom homes of 3,000+ square feet.
- Familiarity with passive house and sustainable design principles.
- Knowledge of wood-frame residential construction practices.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite for presentation and design-related tasks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office for documentation, communication, and project coordination.
- Interest in growing into a client-facing role within a small office environment.
- Ability to thrive in a design-focused, collaborative culture with diverse project types.
Work Environment
- The role is based in a hybrid work setting, with three days onsite (Tuesday through Thursday) in the Hudson, NY office and additional flexibility as needed for client meetings.
- You will work in a small, lean team alongside a lead architect and junior/intern support within an open office environment that encourages high visibility, collaboration, and direct mentorship.
- The culture emphasizes design quality and strong technical production, with an initial focus on construction document output and opportunities to expand into broader project phases over time.
- The office supports exposure to passive house and sustainable design principles, as well as high-end, custom residential work, offering a setting where motivated architects can grow quickly into more client-facing responsibilities.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
