Job Description
Job Description
Bates Electric Inc. is seeking a customer-focused Electrical Service Project Manager who can grow customer relationships, develop a book of business, and deliver profitable electrical service work. This role owns opportunities and projects from initial customer contact and estimating through field execution, closeout, and timely billing.
We earn repeat business by listening, recommending practical solutions, communicating clearly, and following through. The ideal candidate combines electrical field knowledge, proactive sales ability, organization, and sound judgment to deliver reliable service and sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
· Customer relationships. Act as the primary contact for assigned customers. Understand operating needs, set clear expectations, provide timely updates, resolve concerns, and build repeat business.
· Business development and book ownership. Grow an assigned book of business across existing and new customers through prospecting, account development, referrals, and re-engagement. Identify customer needs, follow up on proposals, and convert appropriate opportunities into profitable work.
· Pipeline management and forecasting. Maintain visibility into leads, estimates, outstanding proposals, scheduled work, and expected starts. Forecast near-term opportunities and communicate staffing and revenue needs to Service leadership.
· Estimating and job planning. Conduct site visits, define scope, prepare accurate estimates and proposals, and confirm pricing, exclusions, material needs, scheduling, and customer authorization before work begins.
· People coordination and leadership. Partner with dispatch, field leadership, technicians, support staff, and vendors to establish priorities and clear instructions. Coach and support team members within assigned authority; escalate staffing or performance issues to Service leadership.
· Project execution and safety. Oversee multiple service calls and projects from authorization through completion. Coordinate labor and materials, monitor schedules and progress, resolve field issues, and reinforce safe work practices and quality workmanship.
· Financial and billing accountability. Manage project financial performance, including job costs, estimated versus actual results, gross margins, completed work, and billed revenue. Secure approval for scope changes, resolve closeout exceptions, and submit complete information for accurate, timely invoicing.
· Systems, documentation, and follow-through. Maintain timely, accurate records in applicable work-order, estimating, and customer tracking systems. Document customer communications, decisions, change orders, and next steps; escalate risks and delays early.
Qualifications and Professional Expectations
· Working knowledge of commercial electrical systems, service operations, and field practices; experience in electrical service, electrical project management, or a closely related trade.
· Demonstrated customer relationship skills and ability to develop new business, follow up on opportunities, and present credible proposals.
· Ability to coordinate multiple jobs, organize technicians and resources with dispatch, and manage changing priorities.
· Strong communication, judgment, customer service, accountability, and follow-through.
· Comfort using estimates, job-cost information, work-order systems, email, and spreadsheets. Jonas experience is a plus.
How Success Is Measured
Performance is evaluated against agreed departmental and individual goals, including customer retention and repeat business; new accounts and opportunity pipeline; completed work and billed revenue; gross margin dollars and percentage; job execution and technician coordination; and accurate, timely closeout and billing. Performance will be reviewed regularly, with emphasis on production, profitability, pipeline development, and customer retention. Specific targets will be established with Service leadership.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is based on experience and qualifications. Benefits and compensation details will be discussed during the hiring process and confirmed in the offer of employment.
