GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:


This is a Temporary position with the possibility to become permanent.


The Campus Security Officer performs a variety of duties to ensure the safety and security of students, staff and visitors and campus buildings/properties. Some weekend work is required; flexible schedule is a must. Campus Security Officers report to the Director of Security.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Conduct security and safety rounds of assigned campus buildings by foot and mobile. Rounds include both the interior and exterior campus property.

· Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.

· Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.

· Report all noted discrepancies any suspicious activities, safety and security hazards and any other dangerous conditions that could affect the proper functioning of the campus or the safety of the campus community such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.

· Completes Incident Reports and Maintenance Service Request Forms when warranted.

· Respond to all safety and security related incidents occurring on campus. Take appropriate and proper action to diffuse situations as warranted.

· Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.

· Complete required documentation of all incidents as per operational procedure.

· Interact and collaborate with other Campus Safety Officers and members of the college community as necessary to accomplish departmental goals.

· Completes a log of daily activities and provides “pass on” information to relief personnel.

· Authorized to issue instructions, directions, and order to all Valley Forge personnel including cadets/students and visitors.

· Assist cadets/students, faculty, staff, and guests when needed.

· Observe departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.

· Answers radio calls or incoming phone calls via security radio.

· Required to have prompt and regular attendance during regular hours and as needed.

· Complete Daily Vehicle Checklist for use of the patrol vehicle during regular shift, and assist in cleaning and refueling when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma/GED required. Associate Degree preferred.

Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience in the security industry such as Law Enforcement, Corrections, EMT / Fire Safety, and Public Safety: or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • PA State Police Background Check
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  • PA Driver’s License History Clearance
  • CPR First Aid & AED preferred
  • Narcan / EpiPen preferred
  • ACT 67 (School Resource Officer)

Other/Special:

· Must possess strong written and verbal communications and analytical skills.

· Must be able to perform in a sometimes fast-paced environment and stressful situations, and remain professional and calm.

· Willingness to work with children and young adults.

· Must be mobile, able to frequently negotiate stairways and have the ability to stand for extended periods of time, especially during campus activities or athletic events.

· Must have the ability to take reasonable steps to maintain a safe and secure environment on the campus and respond to emergency situations as necessary.

· Must be highly energetic, observant, and aware and must be an individual of integrity.

· Must have a current, valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
