General Description
Responsible for assisting with the maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and overall condition of Caring Health Center facilities, grounds, equipment, and building systems. Assists with routine maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance activities. Responds to work orders and facility-related needs and provides facilities support across multiple locations.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2–3 years of related facilities, building maintenance, or healthcare facility maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of commercial building maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC/mechanical systems, preventive maintenance, and general building repairs.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine facility and maintenance issues, identify potential causes, determine appropriate solutions, and recognize when issues require specialized technical assistance.
- Experience with work orders and maintenance documentation, including the ability to receive, prioritize, complete, and document work requests.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, floor-care equipment, snow-removal equipment, and other equipment used in commercial building maintenance.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and the ability to identify and appropriately address facility hazards.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid Massachusetts driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work across multiple facilities and travel between locations as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commercial floor care, including stripping, waxing, buffing, polishing, and maintaining various flooring types.
- Familiarity with building automation systems, thermostats, controls, timers, and related systems used to manage heating, cooling, ventilation, and facility operations.
- Familiarity with life-safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, exit signage, fire extinguishers, emergency generators, and related equipment.
- Experience coordinating maintenance or repairs with qualified contractors and service providers.
- Experience working in a healthcare or other regulated facility environment.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Perform routine plumbing maintenance and minor repairs, including troubleshooting leaks, clogged drains, faucets, toilets, fixtures, valves, and other basic plumbing concerns.
- Troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on basic electrical systems, including lighting, outlets, switches, fixtures, breakers, and related components within the appropriate scope of the position.
- Perform general carpentry and building repairs, including doors, locks, cabinets, shelving, walls, ceilings, trim, hardware, furniture, and other facility components.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and perform basic maintenance on commercial HVAC and mechanical systems. Identify operational concerns, monitor system performance, and coordinate service with qualified HVAC contractors when specialized repairs are required.
- Monitor and operate building automation systems, thermostats, controls, timers, and related systems used to manage heating, cooling, ventilation, and other facility operations.
- Perform commercial floor maintenance, including stripping, waxing, buffing, polishing, and maintaining various types of flooring.
- Safely operate snow blowers and other snow-removal equipment and participate in snow and ice removal activities at entrances, sidewalks, parking areas, and other designated locations.
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on facility systems, equipment, fixtures, and building components to reduce breakdowns, extend equipment life, and identify potential issues after they become significant operational problems.
- Monitor and assist with the maintenance of life-safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, exit signage, fire extinguishers, emergency generators, and related equipment. Ensure required inspections, testing, and documentation are completed appropriately.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to urgent facility issues, including water leaks, loss of heating or cooling, electrical concerns, building damage, safety hazards, and other conditions that may impact staff, patients, visitors, or continued operations.
- Evaluate facility-related issues, identify potential causes, determine appropriate responses, and escalate concerns requiring specialized technical expertise.
- Receive, prioritize, complete, and document facility work orders in a timely and accurate manner.
- Provide facilities support across multiple locations, prioritize requests based on operational needs, travel between sites as required, and effectively manage competing priorities.
- Identify unsafe facility conditions, take appropriate corrective action, report hazards, and maintain work areas in accordance with applicable workplace safety standards.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, snow-removal equipment, floor-care equipment, and other tools and equipment used in commercial building maintenance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and working in various positions.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, equipment, and other items associated with facility maintenance.
- Ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to safely work from ladders and in areas that may require reaching, climbing, or working at elevated heights.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice, as necessary to perform facility maintenance and snow and ice removal activities.
- Ability to work in environments that may include noise, dust, cleaning products, mechanical equipment, and other conditions commonly associated with commercial building maintenance.
- May occasionally be required to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, or outside normal business hours in response to facility emergencies, weather-related events, or operational needs.
Salary range: $19.23 to $24.19 per hour
