Job Title: Project Engineer
Job Description
The Project Engineer plays a key role in planning and executing construction projects, working closely with the Assistant Project Manager to maintain schedules, budgets, and quality standards. This position manages submittal approvals, coordinates timely delivery of materials, and supports project administration from preconstruction through close-out, all while upholding a strong safety and Zero Harm culture. The role offers the opportunity to support large, critical projects in Eastern Washington, including healthcare facilities and data centers.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Assistant Project Manager with day-to-day planning and execution of construction projects.
- Support project financial responsibilities by tracking costs and helping maintain project profitability.
- Participate in preconstruction services, including reviewing design documents and preparing for project start-up.
- Contribute to project start-up activities and help develop and maintain detailed project schedules.
- Prepare, submit, and track Requests for Information (RFIs) to resolve design and construction issues.
- Manage change orders by coordinating documentation, approvals, and integration into project budgets and schedules.
- Oversee the submittal process, ensuring timely review, approval, and delivery of materials and equipment.
- Handle project administration tasks, including documentation, reporting, and coordination among stakeholders.
- Support project coordination activities to align design, engineering, construction, and subcontractor efforts.
- Assist with project close-out procedures, ensuring all documentation, punch lists, and turnover requirements are completed.
- Promote strong customer relations through professional communication and responsive project support.
- Contribute to a positive culture by supporting leadership initiatives and employee development within the project team.
- Ensure all project activities comply with established safety standards and the Zero Harm culture.
- Utilize project management software, including Procore and other tools, to manage information, schedules, and documentation.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field of engineering.
- At least 2 years of experience working for a general contractor on commercial tenant improvement projects.
- Hands-on experience performing RFIs, managing submittals, and executing project close-out procedures.
- Practical experience with project management and construction management in commercial construction environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and process change orders in coordination with project teams.
- Experience in project engineering within commercial construction settings.
- General experience using project management software; familiarity with Procore is preferred.
- Ability to coordinate project scheduling and support the development and maintenance of construction schedules.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting healthcare or clinical construction projects is preferred.
- Experience in design and engineering coordination within construction projects.
- Strong project coordination skills, including communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with commercial construction, including tenant improvement and large critical projects.
- Ability to promote positive customer relationships through professional and timely interactions.
- Commitment to safety and alignment with a Zero Harm culture.
- Interest in contributing to culture, leadership, and employee development within project teams.
Work Environment
This role is based 100% onsite at an office in Yakima, Washington, with occasional travel to project sites as needed. The Project Engineer works closely with the onsite Assistant Project Manager and collaborates with project stakeholders, subcontractors, and internal teams. The environment involves regular use of project management software, including Procore, and engagement with large, critical construction projects such as healthcare facilities and data centers. Work is conducted in a professional office and field setting, requiring adherence to site safety protocols and coordination with construction activities.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Yakima, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $45.00/hr.
