Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Machine Shop Quality Technician to inspect machined parts and verify that products meet drawing, customer, and quality-system requirements. This role works closely with machinists and production staff to identify issues early, document inspection results, and support consistent quality throughout the manufacturing process.


Responsibilities


  • Documentation and data entry
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, pin gauges, and thread gauges.
  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, finishes, and other product requirements, including GD&T where applicable.
  • Complete inspection reports, check sheets, and other required quality records accurately and on time.
  • Document nonconforming material and communicate findings clearly to production and quality personnel.
  • Help investigate quality issues and support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain calibration awareness and handle inspection equipment with care.
  • Support first-article inspections, customer documentation, and audits as needed.
  • Help promote safe work practices and a quality-focused approach across the shop.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience inspecting manufactured parts in a machine shop or similar production environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and use common inspection instruments.
  • Strong attention to detail and dependable documentation skills.
  • Clear communication and good working relationships with machinists and production teams.
  • Basic computer skills for entering inspection results and maintaining records.
  • Commitment to safety, accuracy, and following established procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Machining or machine shop experience.
  • Familiarity with CNC machining, shop processes, and common machining terminology.
  • Experience with GD&T, CMMs, optical comparators, or other advanced inspection equipment.
  • Experience with first-article inspection, nonconformance reporting, or corrective-action processes.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or another quality-management system.

Work Environment

This position works in a machine shop and may involve time on the production floor around operating equipment. Appropriate personal protective equipment and safe work practices are required.
