Job Description

We're partnering with a client seeking an experienced Data Protection & Microsoft Purview Engineer to join their team on a contract basis, with the potential for extension. This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex data protection challenges and making immediate improvements to an enterprise Microsoft Purview environment.

In this role, you'll lead efforts to optimize Microsoft Purview, improve data governance processes, reduce alert fatigue, and strengthen data protection capabilities. You'll also play a key role in evaluating additional data governance platforms while helping internal teams build long-term success through documentation and knowledge transfer.

What You'll Do

\n

    \n
  • Assess and optimize the current Microsoft Purview environment.
  • \n

  • Refine Sensitive Information Types (SITs) to improve detection accuracy.
  • \n

  • Review and enhance sensitivity labels, auto-labeling policies, and inheritance.
  • \n

  • Tune Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies to reduce false positives and improve effectiveness.
  • \n

  • Analyze Purview alerts and provide recommendations to improve signal-to-noise ratio.
  • \n

  • Support investigations involving sensitive data handling and security incidents.
  • \n

  • Evaluate and perform proof-of-concept testing for additional data governance and protection solutions.
  • \n

  • Document findings, recommendations, and best practices.
  • \n

  • Provide knowledge transfer, training, and guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • \n

What We're Looking For

\n

    \n
  • 5+ years of experience in data protection, information security, or cloud security.
  • \n

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, including:
  • \n

  • Information Protection
  • \n

  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
  • \n

  • Sensitive Information Types (SITs)
  • \n

  • eDiscovery
  • \n

  • Insider Risk Management
  • \n

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft E5 Security & Compliance.
  • \n

  • Experience implementing or evaluating enterprise data protection technologies.
  • \n

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with technical and business stakeholders.
  • \n

  • Experience redesigning sensitivity labeling taxonomies.
  • \n

  • Experience supporting regulated or compliance-driven environments.
  • \n

  • Background evaluating multiple data governance or information protection platforms.

Compensation: The projected pay range for this position is $90-120/HR, depending on experience and qualifications.
