Web Developer / Web Accessibility Specialist – SharePoint / WCAG

Work Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM


Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote


Position Overview

The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking a Web Developer / Web Accessibility Specialist to support the Office of Strategic Communications / Digital Services team.


This position will help audit, remediate, and maintain web content and digital assets across GDOT’s online channels to ensure compliance with ADA Title II, WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 Level AA, WAI-ARIA, and Section 508 requirements.


The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Microsoft SharePoint Online and SharePoint Server, front-end web development, accessibility testing and remediation, and accessible document creation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and automated accessibility audits of public websites, portals, and web applications.
  • Use accessibility tools such as Siteimprove, AccessiBe, or similar platforms to identify compliance issues.
  • Remediate non-compliant HTML, CSS, JavaScript, interactive components, and page structures.
  • Ensure web-published digital assets, including PDFs, videos, forms, graphics, presentations, photos, and GIS maps, meet accessibility standards.
  • Test new and existing web content for accessibility compliance.
  • Work with content creators, communications staff, IT teams, and third-party vendors to implement accessibility best practices.
  • Manage, maintain, and update web pages and custom components in Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Develop and modify SharePoint templates, web parts, page layouts, and CSS/JavaScript integrations.
  • Implement proper ARIA roles, landmarks, semantic HTML, and accessible page structure.
  • Support accessible document creation and remediation using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Help establish repeatable internal processes and accessibility standards for ongoing compliance.


Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • 2+ years of professional experience as a Webmaster, Front-End Developer, Web Accessibility Specialist, or similar role.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SharePoint Online and/or SharePoint Server, including content management or development.
  • 2+ years of experience with accessibility standards and practices, including:
    • ADA Title II
    • WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 Level AA
    • WAI-ARIA
    • Section 508
  • 2+ years of front-end development experience using:
    • HTML5
    • CSS3
    • JavaScript
    • Responsive design/framework concepts
  • 2+ years of document accessibility/remediation experience, including:
    • Adobe Acrobat Pro DC or similar PDF remediation tools
    • Accessible document creation in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, Graphic/Digital Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
