Job Description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs HVAC and refrigeration systems across campus facilities within a hospital environment. This role responds to service calls, troubleshoots equipment issues, performs preventive maintenance, and ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The technician collaborates closely with other trades and follows EPA and institutional safety standards to support reliable, efficient, and safe facility operations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems throughout campus facilities.
  • Respond promptly to service calls and work orders related to HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and general building maintenance issues.
  • Troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing problems and implement effective, timely repairs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and related building systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Carry out general facilities maintenance tasks, including carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and basic plumbing work.
  • Ensure all work complies with EPA guidelines, institutional safety standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other trades and maintenance personnel to complete multi-disciplinary repairs and projects.
  • Diagnose equipment problems, identify root causes, and recommend or implement appropriate solutions.
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor areas of the hospital campus, adapting to varying environmental conditions.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and properly use tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two (2) years of maintenance experience in a hospital, diversified building maintenance, or construction environment.
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC system installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and HVAC equipment.
  • Proficiency in general building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, and basic electrical work.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment problems and develop effective repair solutions.
  • Capability to work across different maintenance disciplines such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to EPA and institutional safety standards.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments across a hospital campus.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical or trade school education in HVAC, electrical, electronics related to industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior electrical and mechanical experience preferred.
  • Experience with facilities maintenance in a hospital or large campus environment is beneficial.
  • Skill in painting, drywall repair, and general carpentry tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing and repairing building systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other trades and facility staff.

Work Environment

This role operates across a hospital campus with a mix of indoor and outdoor work environments. You will work in mechanical rooms, patient care areas, support spaces, and exterior campus locations as needed to service HVAC and building systems. The position involves regular use of tools and equipment related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance. Work conditions may include exposure to varying temperatures, noise from mechanical equipment, and the need to navigate different areas of the facility safely while following all institutional safety and environmental guidelines.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orangeburg, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
