Position Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all children, families, visitors and staff at Saint Aedan’s Pre School. This includes routine cleaning of the Pre School wing on the first floor of the building. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and takes pride in keeping public spaces clean and functional. Work to be performed after preschool hours.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ DUTIES:
- Sweep, vacuum, and disinfect all public areas, offices, and classrooms daily.
- The rugs in the entrance ways and hallways will be swept or vacuumed daily.
- All Pre School classroom floors, hallways and interior entry stairs
will be wet-mopped a minimum of 3 non-consecutive days per week.
- Clean and sanitize all bathrooms in Pre School first floor daily, refill toilet tissue and paper towel dispensers as required.
- Dusting and windows cleaned as needed.
- Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste in the dumpster. Trash bags will be changed daily.
- Checking the outside of the facility and parking area has no hazards and remains orderly, including but not limited to outside trash bins, washing down walkways, alerting management to parking issues, etc.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, hanging items, patching holes, unclogging drains, reporting damage).
- Ensure all entrances, hallways, and emergency exits are clean and free of obstructions.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisor when restocking when needed.
- Follow health and safety protocols, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Lock/unlock facilities as required.
- Respond promptly to custodial-related requests.
- Assist with seasonal cleaning and special deep-cleaning projects (strip and wax floors in the summer, shampoo carpets in classrooms and office area in the summer, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
- Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safe usage.
- Good time management and ability to work independently or with a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
SCHEDULE:
- Monday-Friday
- Work to be performed after preschool program hours.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Indoor and occasional outdoor work
- Frequent exposure to cleaning products and physical activity
