Private Cloud / DevOps Engineer - Denver - up to $115K
Job Description
Private Cloud / DevOps Engineer – Denver, Colorado
\n
Salary: Up to $115,000 base, depending on experience, plus healthcare benefits and a 401(k)
\n
Location: Englewood / Denver, CO – Hybrid, minimum 2 days per week in the office
\n
Reports to: CEO
\n
\n
We’re recruiting a Private Cloud / DevOps Engineer for a growing international technology business providing secure, scalable SaaS solutions to customers in the financial services industry.
\n
This is a genuinely hands-on, multi-hat role for a practical infrastructure engineer who enjoys owning real systems end to end. Our client is open on seniority, from a capable mid-level engineer to a highly experienced operator. They will weigh breadth, judgement and hands-on ability above any single technology.
\n
\n
The opportunity
\n
You’ll join an international IT team responsible for running and developing a complex private cloud environment that supports business-critical SaaS applications. You’ll work across Linux and Windows infrastructure, virtualisation, networking, storage, automation and data centre technologies. You’ll keep environments secure, reliable and available around the clock, and drive continuous improvement and future infrastructure development.
\n
\n
This isn’t a narrow support role. You’ll own environments, troubleshoot real infrastructure problems and build the automation and deployment pipelines that ship the product. You’ll report directly to the CEO and work closely with an experienced team, including the CTO and infrastructure and network specialists. Locally in Denver, you’ll be alongside a Head of Development and six software developers. It’s a small, close-knit team where your work is visible and valued.
\n
\n
What you’ll be doing
\n
- \n
- Administering and supporting a mixed Linux and Windows Server estate across development, staging and production
- Operating and continuously improving the company’s private cloud: compute, storage, networking, virtualisation and data centre technologies
- Building and maintaining deployment automation and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab, Jenkins or GitHub Actions), and scripting away repetitive work
- Supporting high-performing application servers and database clusters (MySQL / SingleStore), including backup, redundancy and recovery
- Managing network and VPN infrastructure (e.g. OpenVPN, IPsec), firewalls and monitoring
- Troubleshooting issues across hardware, operating systems, networks and applications, often without a runbook
- Working with development and client-facing teams to turn requirements into practical, end-to-end infrastructure solutions
- Collaborating with cybersecurity specialists to keep environments secure and documentation accurate
- Helping procure, configure and lifecycle-manage data centre hardware
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
The underlying environment covers a broad infrastructure stack rather than being centred on public-cloud technologies.
\n
\n
What we’re looking for
\n
You could currently be a Systems or Infrastructure Engineer, a Linux or Windows Systems Administrator, a DevOps, Cloud or Site Reliability Engineer, a Data Centre Engineer or an IT Operations specialist. Often that will be in a startup, scale-up, SaaS, MSP or hosting environment where you’ve worn several hats. We’re particularly interested in people with a combination of:
\n
\n
- \n
- Strong Linux systems administration
- Solid Windows Server experience
- Scripting and automation: Bash/Shell plus PowerShell or Python, and configuration management such as Ansible or Salt
- CI/CD and source control: Git/GitLab, Jenkins or GitHub Actions
- Virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V or Proxmox) and Docker/containers
- Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, VPNs and firewalls
- RAID, storage, backup and monitoring (e.g. Nagios, PRTG, Zabbix, Prometheus)
- MySQL clusters, SingleStore or similar database infrastructure
- Data centre hardware: rack servers, switches and firewalls
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
You don’t need everything on this list. Public cloud exposure, particularly AWS, is useful context but not essential. Linux is especially valuable today, although the environment is expected to become increasingly Windows-focused over the next 9–18 months, so you’ll need to be comfortable working across both.
\n
\n
What matters most
\n
We’re looking for someone curious, hands-on and self-directed: someone who wants to understand how things work rather than simply follow a runbook. You should be happy in a small team where everyone pitches in, and reliable when genuinely urgent issues come up. You’ll also need to communicate clearly with developers, security specialists and customer-facing colleagues. A problem you haven’t seen before should feel like something to investigate rather than avoid.
\n
For the right person, this is a chance to take real ownership of a business-critical infrastructure estate. You’ll do it in a growing international technology company, with a direct line to the CEO and an experienced technical team around you.
\n
\n
Location & package
\n
- \n
- Englewood / Denver, Colorado
- Hybrid: minimum 2 days per week in the office
- No formal on-call rota; on rare occasions the team may need to respond outside normal hours
- Up to $115,000 base salary, depending on experience
- Healthcare benefits and a 401(k) plan
- Candidates must be legally authorised to work in the United States indefinitely, without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future
