Job Description
We are seeking mechanically inclined, entry-level technicians to join a data center team in Altoona, Iowa. In this role, you assemble and mount trays and server racks, install servers and switches, and pull and route fiber optic and network cabling using blueprints and project documents. You work with hand and power tools in an assembly-line environment on an active construction site, supporting the build-out of large-scale data center infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Assemble and mount trays and server racks by following construction blueprints and layout plans.
- Pull fiber optic cable and network cabling (e.g., Cat5, Cat6) from point A to point B and route it according to project specifications.
- Install servers and switches into racks and run associated cabling in a neat and organized manner.
- Scan inventory, unpack boxes of materials, and verify that components and equipment match project requirements.
- Break down shipping materials, organize parts, and prepare components for rack building and installation.
- Work on an assembly line to support the systematic build-out of server racks and related infrastructure.
- Use hand and power tools safely to perform construction-related tasks and equipment installation.
- Read, interpret, and work from blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE while working on an active construction site with heavy equipment and ongoing construction activity.
- Collaborate with team members to meet project timelines and production goals in a high-pressure environment.
- Apply problem-solving and critical thinking skills to troubleshoot basic installation and layout issues.
- Maintain accurate documentation as needed, including inventory scans and project reporting.
- Travel within the branch or regional territory as needed to support data center projects.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance to support consistent project progress and team coordination.
Essential Skills
- Experience working on construction sites with general knowledge of construction practices and safety.
- Mechanical aptitude with approximately 6 months to 1 year of hands-on experience (such as working on vehicles, assembling computers, wiring electrical components, building models, or similar activities).
- Ability to understand how components fit together, visualize the end result, and plan how to get from point A to point B.
- Ability to follow and work from blueprints and construction prints to assemble trays, racks, and lay out wiring.
- Comfort using hand tools and basic power tools in a production or construction environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in an assembly-line setting.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with coworkers.
- Proven problem-solving and critical thinking skills in high-pressure or fast-paced environments.
- Ability to read, write, and give clear oral presentations or instructions when needed.
- Capability to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the branch and regional territory as required.
- Commitment to regular attendance and reliability in meeting scheduled work hours.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in structured cabling, including installation of Cat5, Cat6, or fiber optic cable, is preferred.
- General labor, production, carpentry, or similar hands-on experience is an advantage.
- Self-motivated, positive, and professional approach to daily work and team interactions.
- Interest in helping create, develop, and implement project process improvements.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements, or the ability to learn these skills.
- Comfort working in an active construction environment with large sites and moving equipment.
- Willingness to travel from other states when needed; lodging is provided and per diem is available during such assignments.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules, including occasional Saturday work to meet project deadlines.

Work Environment
This is a fully on-site position based in Altoona, Iowa, performed inside a large, active construction site where data center server racks are built out in an assembly-line atmosphere. You work primarily indoors on the server rack production floor, but within a construction environment that includes large sites, moving equipment, and ongoing build activities. The standard schedule is five 10-hour shifts from Monday through Friday, typically 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with occasional Saturdays if needed to keep projects on track, resulting in a 50-hour workweek plus potential overtime. You are on your feet for most of the shift, so comfortable steel-toed boots are strongly recommended. Full PPEhard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed bootsis required at all times to ensure safety. The environment is structured and fast-paced, with clear production goals, established safety protocols, and the use of standard hand and power tools for assembly and installation work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Altoona, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
