Job Description Facilities & Safety Coordinator

[Full-Time | Jackson & Hillsdale, MI | Starting at $19.00/hour]

Do you enjoy fixing things, keeping buildings running smoothly, and being the person others can count on when something needs attention?

Segue, Inc. is looking for a Facilities & Safety Coordinator to help maintain safe, clean, functional, and welcoming facilities for our employees and the individuals we serve. This is a hands-on position combining general building maintenance and facility upkeep with responsibility for helping coordinate workplace safety activities.

You don't need to be an expert in every building trade or come to us knowing behavioral health regulations. We're looking for someone with solid hands-on maintenance and custodial experience who is dependable, organized, safety-minded, and willing to learn.

About Segue

Segue, Inc. is a nonprofit behavioral health organization providing community-based mental health services in Jackson and Hillsdale Counties. As a provider within the local community mental health (CMH) system, Segue partners with LifeWays and other local agencies to provide services that support recovery, independence, and quality of life for individuals in our communities.

Our employees work in a variety of clinical, support, and administrative roles to help make those services possible. In this position, you'll contribute to that mission by helping ensure our facilities are safe, functional, well-maintained, and prepared to meet the everyday needs of the people who work in and receive services from them.

What You'll Do

Your days will vary. You may be completing a minor repair in the morning, checking building conditions or meeting a contractor later in the day, and helping complete a safety inspection in the afternoon.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform routine building maintenance, minor repairs, custodial work, and preventive maintenance.
  • Help maintain building interiors, grounds, entrances, parking areas, and other facility spaces.
  • Identify facility concerns and either address them or coordinate appropriate repair or service.
  • Help manage facility supplies, equipment, maintenance schedules, and contractors.
  • Conduct routine facility and workplace safety inspections and help ensure identified concerns are corrected.
  • Maintain basic safety, inspection, incident, and facility records.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness activities, drills, and other workplace safety initiatives.
  • Work with Segue's Safety Officer and organizational leadership to support safe and compliant facilities.

Important: You won't be expected to perform work that requires a licensed trade professional or make regulatory decisions outside the scope of this position. Those issues are escalated to the appropriate person.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is practical, dependable, organized, and takes pride in maintaining a safe and well-functioning environment.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of custodial, building maintenance, facilities, or similar hands-on experience.
  • General knowledge of routine building maintenance, minor repairs, tools, equipment, custodial practices, and workplace safety.
  • Ability to recognize when a repair or safety concern requires additional expertise or assistance.
  • Good organization, communication, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to maintain simple electronic records and documentation.
  • Ability to perform the physical responsibilities of facilities work, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between Segue locations as required.

Even Better If You Have

Experience or training in areas such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, boilers, preventive maintenance, workplace safety, emergency preparedness, or facilities operations is a plus—but we don't expect one person to be an expert in all of them.

Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, human services, education, nonprofit organizations, or another regulated environment is also helpful but not required.
