The Project Engineer will manage various tasks throughout the construction project process, including bidding, estimating, construction, and closeout. The role provides opportunities for gaining experience and mentorship from a Project Manager and/or Superintendent.
Responsibilities
- Bidding / Preconstruction (Estimating): Make phone calls to subcontractors to solicit bids, collect and qualify bids, assist with the development of bid scope summary sheets, assist with bid approval forms and required back-up, assist with research on new/out-of-town subcontractors, track new subcontractor applications, coordinate drawings, and generate RFIs.
- Site Specific Safety Measures: Conduct subcontractor safety orientations, perform safety inspections, track and organize safety manuals and SDS, procure and maintain site signage, evaluate barricade maintenance, maintain site cleanliness, and relocate staged material as needed.
- Document Control: Track and distribute incoming drawings and bulletins, update drawing logs, review incoming submittals for conformance to contract documents, log and track submittals going to and from the A/E, prepare and submit RFIs, ensure RFIs are sent to all affected subcontractors, document project scope changes and extra work orders, and maintain drawings, submittals, and RFIs within databases and project binders.
- Project Schedule/Construction Progress: Take and file progress photos, assist Superintendent with daily report preparation, track onsite construction progress, assist in the development of three-week look-ahead schedules, communicate with subcontractors regarding labor and material availability, maintain material status reports, track subcontractor productivity, and assist with onsite supervision and management of trades.
- Project Close-Out: Create and track punch lists, track required close-out documentation, assist with scheduling required owner training, review and compile as-built drawings, and create and distribute close-out binders/flash drives.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a similar field
- 2+ years of experience as a Construction Project Engineer, preferably with a general contractor
- Experience with generating RFIs and tracking submittals
- Proficiency in construction management, document control, safety, field construction, project coordination, and construction administration
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience on commercial, warehouse, or industrial projects is a bonus
Work Environment
The position involves a mix of office and field work, with approximately 50% of the time spent in each environment. The office is a very nice space with about 50 employees, including teams for sales, project management, project engineering, estimating, and administration. The company is team-focused and customer-focused, with a strong emphasis on building relationships and a culture-driven focus. There will be some local travel to job sites, primarily day trips, with most projects located within Metro Detroit.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
