Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Engineer to support mechanical construction projects from design through closeout. The Project Engineer will coordinate technical project activities, manage project documentation, and liaise between internal teams, contractors, and clients to ensure projects meet scope, schedule and budget. Ideal candidates will have mechanical engineering experience with exposure to HVAC, piping, sheet metal, plumbing and mission-critical or commercial/data center environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support project execution by reviewing drawings, specifications, and blueprints to ensure constructability and compliance with design intent.
- Prepare, organize and maintain project documentation including RFIs, submittals, transmittals, meeting minutes, and as-built records.
- Coordinate with design engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues and clarify scope.
- Manage and track submittals, shop drawings, equipment data, and procurement packages to meet schedule milestones.
- Review and process change orders and track impacts to budget and schedule in coordination with Project Management.
- Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress, verify installation quality, and enforce safety and technical standards.
- Assist in developing project schedules, material takeoffs, and progress reports for internal and client review.
- Participate in commissioning and start-up activities for mechanical systems including HVAC, piping and plumbing, ensuring proper testing and documentation.
- Provide technical support for mission-critical systems and data center infrastructure, ensuring redundancy, cooling capacity and reliability requirements are met.
- Collaborate with project managers to support risk mitigation, value engineering and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical construction or engineering, with exposure to HVAC, piping, sheet metal and plumbing systems.
- Experience supporting mission-critical, commercial or data center projects strongly preferred.
- Proven experience preparing and managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
- Proficient reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and blueprints.
- Familiarity with project management principles and construction sequencing; experience with scheduling tools is a plus.
- Strong communication and coordination skills with contractors, vendors and internal teams.
- Ability to perform site visits, assess installation quality, and apply corrective actions.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with construction/document management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Model coordination tools) is advantageous.
