Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an IT Software Engineer 2 in Chicago, IL. The position is hybrid/remote with onsite attendance as needed, and candidates should already be in the Chicago area or be prepared to relocate at their own expense and be available onsite from Day 1. There is a possibility the position could transition to full-time onsite in the future. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation pays $68/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay). The role follows a Monday–Friday, first-shift schedule.

Job Summary

\n

Cullerton Group is seeking a Software Engineer to join a Tools & Test Data Management team responsible for building and maintaining scalable internal tooling and test data platforms that improve engineering productivity and data quality. This is a full-stack development role with a strong emphasis on Java, Spring Boot, Angular, AWS, and SQL. The engineer will develop backend services, build responsive front-end applications, support cloud-native deployments, and work with relational data supporting test-data-management workflows. The position will work within a collaborative engineering team and offers the potential to grow into a lead role over time.

Key Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
  • \n

  • Build responsive front-end interfaces using Angular.
  • \n

  • Deploy, monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize cloud-native applications running on AWS.
  • \n

  • Develop efficient SQL queries and manage relational data supporting test data management workflows.
  • \n

  • Design and integrate REST APIs and contribute to reliable, well-tested application features.
  • \n

  • Participate in CI/CD and Agile development practices.
  • \n

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver scalable internal software solutions.

Required Qualifications

\n

    \n
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical field.
  • \n

  • 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • \n

  • Strong proficiency with Java and Spring Boot.
  • \n

  • Hands-on experience with AWS, including technologies such as EC2, S3, DynamoDB, and RDS.
  • \n

  • Strong SQL and relational database skills.
  • \n

  • Professional front-end development experience using Angular.
  • \n

  • Solid understanding of REST APIs, CI/CD, and Agile software development practices.
  • \n

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing cloud-native full-stack applications.
  • \n

  • Experience building internal engineering tools, data platforms, or test-data-management solutions.
  • \n

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across backend, front-end, cloud, and database technologies.

  • Strong collaboration skills and interest in growing into greater technical ownership or a future lead role.
