Job Description

A utility janitor performs essential cleaning, sanitation, and basic facility maintenance. They keep buildings safe, orderly, and hygienic. Responsibilities include mopping floors, emptying trash, sanitizing restrooms, minor repairs, and occasional outdoor upkeep like snow removal or landscaping.

Core Responsibilities

  • General Cleaning: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust common areas, hallways, and workspaces.
  • Sanitation: Deep clean and disinfect restrooms, break rooms, and cafeterias; restock supplies like soap and paper towels.
  • Waste Management: Empty trash and recycling receptacles, transport waste to dumpsters, and keep disposal areas clean.
  • Facility Support: Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for internal/external events.
  • Exterior Upkeep: Perform seasonal duties such as sweeping walkways, landscaping, and shoveling snow.
  • Basic Maintenance: Replace light bulbs, change damaged dispensers, and perform minor repairs or report significant issues to management.
  • Safety & Compliance: Operate commercial cleaning equipment safely (e.g., floor buffers, scrubbers) and follow OSHA/CDC health protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is typically preferred.
  • Experience: Previous custodial or general maintenance experience is a plus.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50+ pounds.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with modern cleaning techniques, chemicals, and power equipment
