Job Description for the WEV (Windows Experience Validation) Test Engineer role.
Primary Skills: Knowledge on Different flavors of Windows Builds Testing
WEV is sign off criteria servicing. WEV also validates candidate builds for engineering teams. Tasks include (but are not limited to):
- Selfhost Windows 11 daily. (Plan, drive, and deploy test efforts for Selfhost projects. test case creation, improvements and maintenance, testing, reporting, bug management for team & PM consumption.)
- Manage communications between WEV & engineering teams.
- Planning / scheduling WEV validation (IST/PST time zones).
- Provide sign-off for Windows on Microsoft Surface devices and Windows 11 Servicing.
Responsibilities
- Preparing devices under test (DUT), bare metal recovery/reinstallation, installation of OS & updates. Deploy pre-release images on DUTs and execute manual test cases.
- Validate expected functional behavior of Windows builds.
- Create and maintain bugs discovered during testing in Azure DevOps (ADO) tool and collaborate with Windows Client & Services and Development team to perform further troubleshooting if necessary.
- Regress bugs after fixes have been released.
- Create, maintain, edit, and revise test plans, test cases, and procedures in test documentation and collateral in Azure DevOps (ADO) and report the results.
- Provide root-cause analysis and identification of likely points of failures.
- Provide impact analysis of failures and customer use cases.
- Collaborate with partners and communicate changes to test cases and schedules.
- Document results in bug reports, status reports, and e-mail.
- Read, understand, and (possibly) modify scripts used for testing and diagnostics.
- When applicable, analyze compatibility issues reported by customers as associated with various DUTs and peripherals.
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Extensive experience and understanding of Windows 10 and Windows 11 Operating Systems and various features of each OS. Knowledge of Windows OS Build numbers/versions.
- Strong understanding of PC components/peripherals and how they relate to software and the OS.
- Clear, thorough, effective communication skills. Candidates are required to read, write, and verbally communicate and articulate well in US English.
- Technical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Should be able to understand customer issues, identify issue/fault type, and the area to which it belongs.
- Should be creative / innovative in problem solving/debugging and decision making, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
