Job DescriptionSalary: $17.00/hr


The mainmissionof the City Rescue Mission of Lansing, since its founding, has remainedto teach the Word of God as found in the Christian Bible (Romans 10:13-15), edify and equip the saints to be committed followers of Jesus Christ and His teachings (Ephesians 4:11-13), and present an authentic representation of traditional, Biblical Christianity (Philippians 1:9-11). For this reason, employees will be guided by the Doctrinal Statementestablishedby theBoard ofDirectors.


Reports To:Shelter Manager

Mission Statement:To meet physical needs for Food and Shelter to bring those with spiritual needs the Hope that is found in Jesus Christ.

Job Overview:This role is vital in the runningofthe Sheltersof the City Rescue Mission.Security Personneloverseeeveryone who has access to the City Rescue Mission Facilities, Completes Roundsonscheduledbasis ensuring thebuildingis secureand the staff and guests are safe. Security assists coordinators and supervisors with deescalating situations as needed.Securitypersonnelmust be friendly and encouraging whilemaintainingshelter policy and procedure with consistency and firmness, willing and ready to be involved in intense situations with little to no notice. TheSecurity personnelmust also be able to complete tasks independently and accurately while staying calm under pressure.


Expected Schedule- 1st Shift- 8am to 4pm- Weekends, Options for rotating weekdays.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Monitor everyone entering the shelter- checking guest tracking software, volunteer schedules,or meeting/appointment schedules as necessaryto ensure all who enter are authorized
  • Use all available tools- including Body Cams, Wands to track rounds, Narcan,etc to ensure safety of yourself, our guests, our staff, and our facilities as a whole and to ensure yourself and the ministry are above reproach
  • Complete rounds of the facilities as scheduled-ensuring thebuilding is secure and no issues have arisen
  • Assistall other staff with de-escalationof moderate todifficultsituations, Escorting people off property when necessary.
  • Be the liaison for emergency services when they are called, ensuring they have all pertinent information
  • Instituting bars, adding guests to the no trespassing list, and otherappropriate measuresrelating to safety
  • Assistwith phone calls and other incoming communication as necessary
  • Maintaingood communicationwith the departmentand a clean and orderly workspace
  • Have a good understanding of shelter policies and procedures and execute them properly
  • Attend all meetings and training sessions as scheduled
  • Show the love of Christ, be ready to share the gospel, and pray with guests regularly

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma-Required
  • Proficient use of the Microsoft Suite-Required
  • 1 Year Security Experience-Preferred
  • CPR,AED, and NARCAN training-Preferred

Skills

  • Ability to learn a new computer program within30 daysof introduction
  • Ability to head off and de-escalate issues with no notice,maintainingcalm and kind under pressure
  • Ability to proficiently use a phone system that spans multiple facilities- including answering, transferring, putting calls on hold, etc. Within15 daysof introduction.
  • Ability to respectfully interact with guests and volunteers no matter their background, temperament, preferences, or life choices
  • Detail oriented, organized, thorough, andpossessingthe ability to multitask well
  • Ability to constantly assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of all work assignments

  • Be ready at all timesto give an answer of the Hope that lies within the committed follower of Christ, as outlined in the Christian Bible, with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15).
  • Live everyday life in submission to the authority of the Christian Bible (2 Timothy 3:15-17).
  • Commit to continual training under those called to teach the doctrines of the faith and the Word of God, as well as to seek out fellowship with other believers (Hebrews 10:24-25), asevidencedby being a member in good standing in a local evangelical church.

Environment

ShelterSecuritywill need to be able to consistently work in a noisy anddistraction-filledenvironment.ShelterSecuritystask will occasionally require them to work in low temperatures,high temperatures, outdoor elements (e.g.rain, wind, snow),and small/enclosed spaces.

Physical Requirements-

Thebelow listed abilitiesare required tobe able to complete the essential duties of the role:

ShelterSecuritywill need to be able to constantly navigate stairs-quickly and proficiently navigatingup to 3flights of stairs whenever needed. They will constantly need to be able to lift 25lbs in all directionsand will occasionally need to lift 50+lbs in all directions.They will need to be able to complete 1-2 hours of physically taxing work without a break and stand or walk for 3+hours without sitting down.They will occasionally need to complete 3+ hours of physically taxing work withoutabreakand be able tomove with haste/light jogfor 500ft.

ShelterSecuritywill need to be able to constantly complete visual scans of indoor/outdoor areasinvarying levels of light. They will need to occasionally complete tasks with repetitive motions that include thewrists,handsand/or fingers. They will need to be able to constantly communicate clearly with others to exchange information.
