Software Developer, DESIM (New York, New York): Software Developer, DESIM positions available. D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P. seeks full-time Software Developer, DESIM, to work in its office in New York, New York. Responsibilities: Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan the installation of new software systems and modifications of existing systems. Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine the feasibility of designs within given time and cost constraints. Confer with systems analysts, engineers, programmers, and other stakeholders to design software systems and obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces. Consult with customers and other departments on project status, proposals, and technical issues, including software system design and maintenance. Design, develop, and modify software systems and use scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and the consequences of designs. Determine system performance standards and train users to use new or modified software. Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation. Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, upgrade interfaces, and improve performance. Prepare reports and correspondence concerning project specifications, activities, and status. Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for the analysis of system capabilities and requirements. Supervise the work of programmers, technologists, technicians, and other engineering and scientific personnel. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field of study plus two (2) years of experience with programming in Python; programming in JavaScript and TypeScript; object- oriented programming; software design patterns; debugging software in a UNIX environment; distributed computing frameworks; and mathematical optimization.
