Job Description
Job Description
New York City, NY · On-site · Full-time Compensation: $200,000–$250,000 + 0.1%–0.35% equity
About the Company
Our client is building the AI operating system for the CFO office — deploying audit-ready AI agents that connect to a company's existing finance stack (ERPs, banks, billing, payroll, CRM, contracts, spreadsheets, email, chat) to automate the work behind close, revenue recognition, reporting, cash management, and audit readiness. The aim is for finance teams to review exceptions while AI handles the rest, powered by a Unified Finance Context layer capturing transactions, policies, contracts, historical decisions, and accounting judgment. It is well-backed by a top fintech-focused investor and finance leaders.
Founded 2023 · 1–10 people (Seed) · Industry: AI Tools / FinTech
The Role
The client is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to own the platform layer every engineering pod depends on. A high-ownership, deeply technical IC role: identify the bottlenecks limiting the company, work directly with engineers, accountants, and customers, and build the abstractions that make hard problems simple.
Tech stack: Python (primary); TypeScript on the frontend when needed; willingness to ramp fast from Go/Java/Rust accepted.
Requirements
- 6+ years of backend and platform engineering
- Depth in distributed systems, data infrastructure, or AI/agent platforms
- Platform-layer ownership — abstractions multiple teams depended on
- Early-stage startup experience (pre-seed to Series B)
- On-site in NYC, six days a week
- A fintech, ERP, or financial-systems background
Nice to Haves
- Staff or Principal IC at a high-growth startup
- A fintech, ERP, ledger, or compliance-system background
- Designed and operated AI-agent platforms in production
- Operates AI coding agents fluently
- Built under correctness-critical or regulatory constraints
Why Join
- A foundational platform seat: own the layer every engineering pod builds on — agent harness, context systems, orchestration, verification, observability, data infrastructure, developer tooling
- High-signal backing from a top fintech investor with finance leaders behind the company
- Depth over span: Staff here means depth of impact, not headcount — everyone keeps writing code
