Job DescriptionFire Alarm Service Technician
Department: Alarm Service
Reports To: Service Manager / Operations Manager Location: Englewood, Colorado Employment Type: Full-Time, Field-Based
Position Summary The Fire Alarm Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining fire alarm systems in commercial, industrial, and residential facilities. This role ensures that all systems are operating in compliance with NFPA codes, local regulations, and manufacturer specifications, delivering exceptional customer service while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Service & Maintenance

  • Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72 and local codes.
  • Diagnose and repair system issues including control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and wiring.
  • Conduct functional tests of all devices and system components to ensure operational readiness.
  • Upgrade and replace outdated components as needed.

Troubleshooting & Repairs

  • Respond to emergency service calls for system malfunctions.
  • Isolate problems, recommend corrective actions, and implement solutions quickly.
  • Work with technical support teams and manufacturers when advanced troubleshooting is required.

Customer Service

  • Interact professionally with customers to explain system performance, repairs, and maintenance needs.
  • Provide recommendations for system improvements or upgrades.
  • Complete service documentation and obtain customer sign-off on completed work.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and repair logs.
  • Ensure all work complies with NFPA standards, manufacturer guidelines, and local authority requirements.
  • Assist in preparing reports for AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) when required.

Safety & Professionalism

  • Follow all OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, and company vehicles in good condition.
  • Stay current with code changes, manufacturer product updates, and industry best practices.


Qualifications Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in electronics or fire alarm systems preferred.
  • 2+ years of fire alarm service, installation, or maintenance experience.

Certifications

  • NICET Level I or higher in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 safety certification desirable.
  • Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Notifier, Siemens, EST, Simplex) highly valued.

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable building/fire codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Basic computer skills for service reporting and documentation.


Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Work in a variety of settings including active construction sites and occupied facilities. ● Availability for on-call rotations, overtime, and travel to job sites.
