Position Summary
The Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for programming, commissioning, servicing, and inspecting fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA standards and manufacturer specifications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring system reliability, life safety compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Program and commission newly installed fire alarm systems
- Install and terminate low-voltage fire alarm equipment in compliance with NFPA and local codes
- Conduct functional testing and system verification
- Perform inspections, troubleshoot deficiencies, and diagnose system issues
- Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and product manuals
- Educate customers on system operation and preventative maintenance
- Complete detailed inspection and service reports accurately and on time
- Provide oversight and direction to helpers and junior installers
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional jobsite
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 2 years of fire alarm service and inspection experience
- Working knowledge of NFPA standards and fire alarm panel systems
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, climbing, and working outdoors
Preferred Certifications:
- NICET (Fire Alarm Systems)
- FASA / BASA Certification
