Job Description
Job DescriptionSalary: $30-$45/hr
Position Summary
We are seeking a high-caliber, floor-focused Senior SMT Equipment Maintenance Technician to oversee the electromechanical health, maintenance, calibration, and repair of our automated surface mount technology lines. This role centers on real-time troubleshooting, defect reduction, and preventative maintenance across the full linefrom solder paste print to reflow.
The ideal candidate possesses deep, hands-on mechanical and process troubleshooting and machine repair experience with the ability to calibrate Mycronic / MyData pick-and-place machines, ensuring maximum uptime and yield without programming responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Real-Time Diagnostics: Respond instantly to floor-down calls, performing advanced electromechanical and pneumatic troubleshooting on Mycronic MY-series machines during active production runs.
Mispick & Reject Reduction: Analyze machine error logs and vision system data on the floor to eliminate component mispicks, dropping, or tombstoning caused by mechanical wear or feeder misalignment.
Magazine and Feeder Maintenance: Diagnose, teardown, repair, and calibrate feeders and linear magazine tracks to guarantee flawless component indexing and pitch.
Solder Paste Printer Machine: Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and adjust setups to ensure accurate printing.
Reflow Oven Profiling & Maintenance: Maintain multi-zone reflow ovens. Assist engineering with running thermal profiling sweeps (using KIC/SlimKIC) on the floor, and troubleshoot heating zone elements, blower motors, and conveyor chain tracks.
Process Tuning: Adjust machine parameters on the fly (e.g., nozzle pick heights, camera lighting thresholds, vacuum pressures, or printer snap-off) to resolve process variations caused by PCB warpage or varying component packaging.
X/Y/Z Calibration: Use specialized jigs and calibration software to mechanically align X, Y, and Z axes, ensuring placement accuracies within micron tolerances.
Preventative Maintenance (PM): Lead scheduled daily, weekly, and monthly PM cycles across the entire line, replacing worn belts, bearings, O-rings, and filters to prevent catastrophic floor failures.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Experience: 5+ years of automated SMT line maintenance and troubleshooting with a minimum of 4+ years dedicated directly to Mycronic / MyData platforms.
Print & Thermal Aptitude: Hands-on experience repairing all devices in solder paste printer, and high-temperature oven conveyor systems.
Mechanical & Pneumatic Mastery: Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude with miniature automated assemblies, precision bearings, linear rails, and low-pressure pneumatic systems.
Schematic Reading: Strong ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, pneumatic and vacuum diagrams, and mechanical blueprints.
Tooling Proficiency: Expert use of precision measurement tools including dial indicators, micrometers, multimeters, and calibration jigs.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, or equivalent military training.
Skilled in using the tools and equipment needed to perform these tasks.
Certified maintenance training directly from Mycronic or a major SMT equipment manufacturer.
Basic understanding of IPC-A-610 standards
