Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a full-time Kauhale Manager in Honolulu, Oahu to oversee daily operations at our Iwilei supportive housing community. This on-site leadership role supports adults experiencing mental health and housing challenges through recovery-oriented housing, behavioral health support, and community-based care.

In this role, you will lead day-to-day housing operations, supervise staff, and help residents strengthen stability, wellness, and independence in a safe and respectful environment. Free clinical supervision hours are available for eligible employees pursuing LCSW licensure. This role is ideal for emerging behavioral health leaders who want to combine supportive housing, recovery-oriented care, and clinical growth in a mission-driven environment.


What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Housing Operations: Oversee intakes, occupancy, rent collection, and unit inspections
  • Resident Support: Coordinate behavioral health, housing, and community-based services
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, coach, and support Kauhale Specialists and daily workflows
  • Safety & Crisis Response: Maintain safety protocols and respond to resident or facility emergencies
  • Recovery-Oriented Support: Encourage stability, wellness, and person-centered engagement
  • Community Collaboration: Partner with internal teams, HMIS/CES providers, and community agencies
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate records and support program compliance standards
  • Facility Coordination: Monitor maintenance needs and support a clean, stable living environment


Kauhale Manager Qualifications

  • Minimum: Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) required
  • Preferred: Three (3)+ years of experience in behavioral health, supportive housing, case management, or community mental health
  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, crisis intervention, organization, and relationship-building skills
  • Certifications: TB clearance, CPR, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Fit for the Role: Comfortable working in a community-based supportive housing environment serving adults experiencing mental health and housing challenges


Requirements & Work Conditions

  • Free clinical supervision hours available for eligible employees pursuing LCSW licensure
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and alcohol/drug screening
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and respond to emergencies in a residential setting
  • Ability to work on-site and support after-hours or urgent facility needs when necessary
