Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Fire Alarm / Security Technician to install, inspect, maintain and repair life-safety and electronic security systems at commercial and residential sites. The roles primary objective is to ensure fire alarm, access control, intrusion, CCTV and related systems are fully operational, code-compliant and reliable to protect people and property. The ideal candidate brings hands-on technical experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to responsive, professional service.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform installation, testing, programming and commissioning of fire alarm panels, smoke/heat detectors, notification appliances, and associated wiring and devices.
- Install, configure and service security systems including access control readers and controllers, intrusion alarm panels, motion sensors, door contacts, and CCTV cameras.
- Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and code-compliance tests for fire alarm and security systems; generate and maintain accurate service reports and logs.
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in electrical and electronic components, perform diagnostics, replace faulty parts, and verify system performance after repairs.
- Respond to service calls and emergency issues in a timely and professional manner; communicate with building managers, clients and authorities having jurisdiction as needed.
- Maintain inventory of parts, tools and equipment; order replacement components and record job materials and labor for billing and warranty purposes.
- Stay current with local and national fire and safety codes (e.g., NFPA), industry best practices, and manufacturer product updates; participate in training as required.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, electricians, and other trades to complete installations on schedule and according to specifications while maintaining site safety and cleanliness.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-4 years experience installing and servicing fire alarm and/or electronic security systems; combination experience in both areas preferred.
- Working knowledge of fire alarm systems (panels, detectors, notification appliances), access control, intrusion detection, and CCTV systems.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (NFPA 72, local AHJ requirements) and experience performing required testing and documentation.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces; ability to lift equipment and perform physical tasks onsite.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation; willingness to travel to customer sites and respond to on-call rotations as needed.
- Certifications such as NICET (Fire Alarm), manufacturer certifications (e.g., Honeywell, Bosch, DSC), or security-related credentials are a plus.
