Job DescriptionThe Lead Foreman – Solar & Energy Storage is responsible for overseeing and executing the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery energy storage solutions on residential and commercial properties. This role combines field leadership with hands-on installation expertise to ensure all projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with design specifications, electrical codes, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise solar and battery installation crews on-site from start to finish
- Interpret plans, permits, and electrical schematics to coordinate efficient project execution
- Oversee battery system wiring, inverter setup, system shutdown switches, and communication cabling
- Ensure compliance with NEC, CEC, and local building and electrical codes
- Maintain quality control, safety protocols, and jobsite cleanliness
- Coordinate with project managers, inspectors, and subcontractors to meet deadlines
- Perform final walkthroughs, system testing, and commissioning procedures
- Train and mentor apprentices and junior installers on best practices and safe procedures
- Document daily progress and submit field reports, change orders, and material needs
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in solar PV installation, including experience leading installation crews or serving in a foreman role
- Experience with battery storage systems such as Tesla Powerwall, Enphase, FranklinWH, Sol-Ark, or similar
- Proficient in conduit bending, wire pulling, mounting hardware, inverter installation, and system commissioning
- Strong knowledge of solar array layout, racking systems, grounding, and electrical troubleshooting
- Thorough understanding of NEC, CEC, OSHA, and local building and electrical codes
- Proficient with computers, tablets, and smartphones for accessing plans, submitting reports, and managing project documentation
- Ability to effectively use email, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), and cloud-based construction/project management software
- Ability to read and interpret digital plans, electrical schematics, and installation documents
- OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification is a plus
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift 75+ pounds and work comfortably on roofs, ladders, and elevated work platforms
