Job Description
Job DescriptionIT Systems Engineer
About the Company
We are a product-driven company with operations spread across multiple facilities and a workforce that depends on technology to keep the business moving every single day. We handle real volume - purchasing, warehousing, order management, shipping - and the systems behind all of it matter. After more than a decade of running a hybrid model where IT responsibilities were shared with other business functions, we have made the decision to build a proper technology team from the ground up. This role is the first piece of that. We are looking for someone who wants to be the architect of something, not just a caretaker of what someone else built.
The Role
This is a ground-floor opportunity to build and own the IT infrastructure for a company in active growth mode. You will be the primary technical resource in the organization, responsible for everything from the cloud environment and server infrastructure to the network and ERP platform. You will work closely with leadership and a future IT Project Manager who will round out the team, and you will have a direct line to the people making decisions about where this company is headed.
We want someone who takes pride in running a tight, well-documented environment and who is energized by the idea of shaping what an IT function looks like - not someone who needs a playbook handed to them before they can get started.
What You Will Own
Cloud and Infrastructure
- Design, build, and maintain the company cloud environment running on Microsoft Azure - including user accounts, email, file storage, and collaboration tools
- Manage all server infrastructure including physical servers, virtualized environments, and cloud-hosted systems
- Own the network across headquarters and remote facilities - routing, switching, wireless, and VPN connectivity for both site-to-site and remote access
- Handle endpoint management end to end - provisioning, configuration, patching, and security tooling for all employee devices
- Monitor system health proactively so that problems are caught before they affect the people depending on these systems
- Own the disaster recovery program - not just write a plan, but build it, test it, and keep it current
- Manage identity and access across the organization - single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, and role-based permissions that actually reflect how the business works
- Drive security practices that protect the environment without creating friction - patch cadence, endpoint protection, and threat visibility
- Be the escalation point when something complex breaks and no one else can solve it
- Manage relationships with outside technology vendors and managed service providers
- Keep documentation thorough and current - system configs, network diagrams, and standard procedures
ERP and Business Application Management
- Serve as the internal expert and primary administrator for our ERP platform, which runs order management, inventory, purchasing, and shipping operations
- Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions within the ERP and ensure access controls reflect current business needs
- Monitor platform performance including the underlying database environment
- Plan and execute updates and version upgrades with minimal disruption to operations
- Configure modules and workflows to match how the business actually operates
- Own integrations between the ERP and other tools in the stack including our CRM platform, shipping systems, and expense management tools
- Build and maintain reports and dashboards that give leadership and operations clear visibility into what is happening in the business
- Keep data accurate and trustworthy across all master records - customers, vendors, products, and pricing
- Support and train team members on how to get the most out of the platform
- Coordinate with the IT Project Manager on system migrations, rollouts, and platform improvements as the team grows
What We Are Looking For
- Four to eight years of real, hands-on experience in systems engineering or infrastructure administration - not help desk work, actual infrastructure ownership
- Solid experience managing Microsoft Azure in a production environment - user administration, cloud services, and day-to-day operations
- Strong foundation in Windows Server and Active Directory
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals - TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, and wireless
- Hands-on experience with server virtualization such as Hyper-V or VMware
- Experience administering an ERP system at an operational level - platforms like NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or other SQL Server-based systems are transferable; direct Epicor Prophet 21 experience is a bonus but not required
- Comfort with scripting and automation - PowerShell is the primary tool in our environment
- Experience building and actually testing backup and disaster recovery processes
- Familiarity with API integrations and how business applications connect to one another
- Exposure to HubSpot or similar CRM platforms is a plus
- Clear, honest communication - you need to be able to explain what is happening technically to people who are not technical
- A degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field - or equivalent experience that proves the same skills
- For this position, you must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship for a non-immigrant visa.
