Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Director of Installation & Maintenance to lead the planning, execution, and ongoing support of fiber optic network installation and maintenance operations. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring network deployment, service delivery, and maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

The Director will oversee field operations, technical teams, contractors, and maintenance programs while driving operational excellence, workforce development, and continuous process improvement across multiple markets.

Key Responsibilities

Installation & Network Operations
\n

- Lead the installation, expansion, and maintenance of fiber optic infrastructure.
- Develop and execute strategies for network deployment, upgrades, preventive maintenance, and restoration activities.
- Oversee fiber splicing, testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and network performance initiatives.
- Support emergency response and outage restoration efforts to minimize service interruptions.

Field Operations & Vendor Management

- Lead field operations teams, supervisors, contractors, and vendor partners.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Manage contractor performance, resource planning, and workforce productivity across multiple projects and service areas.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Establish and monitor quality assurance standards for installation, maintenance, testing, documentation, and restoration activities.
- Promote a culture focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Performance & Reporting

- Develop project schedules, staffing plans, operational budgets, and performance metrics.
- Monitor installation quality, maintenance effectiveness, outage trends, and operational KPIs to improve reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Prepare regular reports on operational performance, budget management, project status, and risk mitigation.

Qualifications

Education
\n

- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
\n
\n
Experience
\n
- \n
- 8+ years of experience in telecommunications, fiber optics, broadband, utility infrastructure, or related industries.
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing field operations, installation teams, contractors, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic installation, outside plant (OSP) construction, network maintenance, and restoration practices.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contractor relationships, and cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with permitting, utility coordination, rights-of-way, and infrastructure deployment activities.
- Demonstrated success leading high-performing teams in fast-paced operational environments.

Preferred Skills

- Knowledge of fiber splicing, OTDR testing, fiber characterization, troubleshooting, and network restoration.
- Experience with GIS platforms, network documentation systems, CMMS, and project management software.
- Strong understanding of OSHA requirements, quality assurance processes, and operational best practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting broadband, telecommunications, utility, or municipal fiber networks is preferred.
- Industry certifications related to fiber optics, project management, or safety are considered a plus.
