About the Opportunity
We are seeking a dependable, safety-minded Groundskeeper to join a high-performing team responsible for maintaining the landscape and grounds of a private waterfront estate on Mount Desert Island. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who takes pride in outdoor work, enjoys contributing to a beautifully maintained environment, and brings a positive, team-oriented approach to each day.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to support a wide range of grounds, landscape, woodland, and seasonal maintenance needs. A background in arboriculture, tree care, forestry, or related outdoor work is strongly preferred.
What You’ll Do
- Perform regular lawn care, landscape upkeep, trimming, edging, planting, and seasonal cleanup.
- Maintain paths, trails, wooded areas, and outdoor spaces to support safety, accessibility, and appearance.
- Assist with tree-related work, storm cleanup, brush removal, and processing of fallen limbs and debris.
- Safely operate and care for landscaping equipment such as zero-turn mowers, chainsaws, pole saws, string trimmers, and small tractors with attachments.
- Perform routine equipment inspections, basic troubleshooting, and minor mechanical maintenance.
- Support seasonal needs including snow removal, placement/removal of seasonal furnishings, and upkeep of tools, machinery, and work areas.
- Contribute to a clean, organized, and safe working environment while following all safety protocols.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic equipment maintenance.
- Strong preference for candidates with arborist training, tree care experience, forestry experience, or related outdoor work experience.
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, the safe operation of landscape and grounds equipment.
- Strong attention to safety, detail, and quality.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a high level of personal accountability.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to lift and move up to 70 lbs. safely and consistently, and to bend, kneel, walk, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Must pass pre-employment and ongoing background checks, including criminal, credit, and driving record reviews.
Schedule & Compensation
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility required during warmer seasons and periods of increased property activity.
